Fr. Michael L Santhumayor is the Principal at Milagres College. He did MA in Economics from KSOU and MA in Konkani from Mangalore University. He has also did MBA from Sikkim Manipal, B.Ed from IGNOU and M.Phil from Dr. C.V. Raman University, Bilaspur. He was the Chairman of BOE in Konkani in the year 2020. He was also the member of BOE in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Arabic, Urdu, Manipuri and Konkani for the period 2015-18. He has established Padua College of Commerce and Management, Nanthur, Mangalore and initiated hostels at Milagres College. Fr. Michael presented several papers in National and International journals. He received the Inspiring Teacher Award by Garden City College, Bangalore.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“To focus on overall development of students and teaching passion connects me with the education sector”

I dedicate myself to teaching due to the consideration of education as a mission and service. My priority is upbringing educational activities and campus. Overall development of students and teaching passion connects me with the education sector. 

How do you strategize key programs and plans for the administration of Milagres College, Mangalore?

“Promote specific programs, consider students as ambassadors and oversee each activity”

Our main strategy is brand with a value-based quality education. We use personal contacts, and consider our students as ambassadors in order to brand the college. Our specific programs spread all over the world in order to promote the campus. Several promotional activities such as Avishkar, Relish, and Navarang promote our campus details among the public. A faculty is also in charge of administration to oversee the campus activities. 

How does the curriculum of Milagres College ensure the best practice of industry?

“Focus on skill development courses and industry visits for students”

We initiated various programs to increase the skill development of pupils. Our campus gives 13 add on courses and 4 ugc career courses in order to meet the needs of the industry. Students get a chance to visit various industries to improve their practical skills. 

How could your college be welcoming students of different economic backgrounds?

“Provide scholarship programs, and a certain sum of money to support students”

We give scholarship programs for economically background students. Students gain knowledge through education and we provide support by providing a certain sum of money. We approach philanthropists to support the students from backward classes.

What are the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general and Milagres College?

“Covid 19 affect, increasing competition, and attracting students towards campus”

One of the challenges is increasing competition in existing colleges. Another one is to attract students and improve marketing outside Mangalore regions. Financial stability is a crisis we face as a self financed college. Covid 19 effects are also huge for us to overcome. 

What plans are you currently designing for Milagres College international affairs and students?

“Brand building, and digital marketing outside our region are new plans decided to initiate by campus”

We decided to build our brand through social media. In addition, our campus began digital marketing outside the region to attract more students. We plan to start new courses in the upcoming years. 

What is the rate of admissions in Milagres College compared to last year?

“We see an increase of 15% in the admission rate compared to last year on campus”

Our admission rate increased to 15% compared to last year. Covid 19 caused some trouble for our admission in a quiet manner. But, we overcome it by confidence and hard work. 

Do you have any extra-curricular activities to enhance the skills of the students to face real-world challenges?

“Industrial Visits, Intercollege fests, Conferences, and Job Fairs are available for students”

Several association clubs, International and national tours are given to students. They can participate in Intercollege fests, Conferences, and Job Fair to tackle unemployment. Industry visits, sports and extracurricular activities improve overall development of the student.
