Admission to St Francis Institute of Management & Research MMS Program

Eligibility:

  • The candidate possesses a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA/CGPI (45% in case of candidates of backward class categories & persons with disability belonging to Maharashtra State only) in any bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized University. 
  • Candidate should have appeared for MAH-MBA/MMS-CET2021 OR CAT/CMAT 2021.

  • Certification Program: The Institute provides ‘add-on’ programs that would shape the students to become corporate ready by upskilling them in the relevant fields as per Industry experts’ suggestions. Various Add-on programs that are provided to the MMS students are Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics and R Programming, Data Visualization, Foundation of Equity and Stock Trading in Association with ICICIdirect.com and NISM, Youth Leadership Program (YLPS) in association with TISS, Financial Modelling in association with ForeVision, Human Resource Management System & Process Automation, Advanced MS – Excel and Digital Marketing.
  • Advanced Excel Training: Knowledge of a few key excel skills & techniques brings a dramatic change in the efficiency of the individual. In today’s techno-savvy world, knowledge of excel is a must for a management graduate. Every year 20 Hrs. Advance excel training is conducted for the students of SFIMAR, wherein an excel trainer from the industry is called to conduct the training. At the completion of the course a test is conducted and the students clearing the test are awarded a certificate of Advanced Excel training.
  • Live Projects: The model is based on the working relationship between students and the corporate. Companies outsource modules of their Marketing, Administrative and Financial analysis projects to the students. The students have already completed projects for companies like Nexus, Tagin Technology, Magnet Technology, Clear trip, McDonald’s, Future Group, Hometown, and many Retail and Market Research companies.
  • DLLE (Department of Life-long learning & Extension): Various activities are organized in collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, University of Mumbai to enhance employability of the students, provide an opportunity to the students for development of marketable work skills, give an opportunity to the students to apply classroom knowledge for the benefit of the community, make the students aware of social problems in the community and to enable the students to find their socio-cultural roots.
  • Guest lectures: To bridge the gap between the theory and practice and also to keep the students up-to-date with the latest developments in the industry Guest lecture is conducted every Saturday, wherein subject experts from the industry having vast knowledge and experience are called to deliver interactive sessions to the students.
  • Eminent Speaker Series: Eminent Speaker Series is a new initiative taken up by SFIMAR to invite renowned personalities such as CEOs, Directors of companies to share their knowledge and experience in order to enrich the students’ knowledge of current industry trends and improve their problem-solving skills.

Students Development Activities at SFIMAR

The development activities offered by the St Francis Institute of Management & Research are as follows:

  • Group Discussion (GD): Group discussion plays a very important role in developing the soft skills of the students. Group discussion on a topic increases the understanding of the topic and helps in generating more ideas about that particular topic or subject. It helps the students in sharpening their communication skills and builds confidence in them. 
  • Viva: During the semester, the subject faculty conducts subject-wise Viva to assess the student takeaways from the subject. The objective of conducting the Viva is to evaluate the student's conceptual knowledge related to the subject taught by the respective faculty members. It has a weightage of 5 marks in the internal assessment/evaluation.
  • Personality Tests: The personality of students is analyzed through the 16PF Test that is administered every year to the students. It is a highly effective tool that reveals potential traits, helps identify the development needs of the students and provides guidance on career suitability. 
  • Mindfulness Centre: The Centre works at the intersection of neuroscience, mindfulness and positive psychology. This training cultivates greater self-acceptance, sharpness of mind and a sustained inner ability to counter stress. By changing the way of thinking and feeling about challenging situations new solutions and opportunities can be arrived at. 
  • Peer-To-Peer Teaching Style: SFIMAR encourages a Peer-to-Peer Tutoring style that involves students teaching other students. A peer tutor concept boosts the classroom learning process and makes it more interactive and interesting.
  • Stress Management & Physical Fitness: SFIMAR ensures that its students are fit enough to fight the challenges they face. Students are provided enough opportunities to build on their physical fitness and embark on a healthier path. Aerobics, Yoga & Meditation are also dedicatedly followed on campus. 
  • Mentoring: SFIMAR ensures extensive mentoring & coaching for its students. Each student is allotted a Mentor for the informal transmission of knowledge, social capital, and the emotional support perceived by the student as relevant to work, career, or professional development. 
  • Couselling: Students are counselled on all academic and career-related developments through professional counsellors. For the students from the economically weaker section, the need is identified through counselling by the Management and the decision in terms of planning for payment options and other finance-related issues are taken care of by the Management. Counselling helps the students manage conflict, improve motivation, and provide supportive communication. It also helps the students to get advice on Stress Management, How to cope with depression, Motivation, Orientation at the Institute decisions, etc. SFIMAR has appointed qualified Professional Counsellors to counsel the students on the personal and psycho-social aspects as indicated above. 

Teaching Approach of SFIMAR

The teaching approach followed by SFIMAR is briefly mentioned below:

  • Pedagogy: The process of teaching and learning comprises interactive classroom lectures, group discussions, case studies, academic projects, assignments, presentations, role plays, viva, field visits & projects, management games, peer-to-peer tutoring, business simulation and film/documentary screening. Each student must spend maximum time on project-based learning wherein the faculty members act as guides and facilitators.
  • Project-based Learning: Projects are designed to ignite the intellectual and innovative abilities of students. It gives students the opportunity to synthesize and apply the knowledge and analytical skills learned in the different disciplines. While undertaking the project, the student must take the help of the Faculty to define its relevance, rationale, aim and objective, a method to be followed and learning outcomes to be achieved. Evaluation of the project will be based on the achievement of the above-mentioned parameters. The project can be dynamic or static (either field-based- connected to industry/ corporate/ institutions or research-based).
  • NPTEL Courses: The NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), which is a project funded by MHRD, offers various add-on certification courses in association with IIMs, IITs, NIT, etc. These add-on certification courses enhance the knowledge domain of a learner beyond the learnings through conventional subjects and methods. Although the course is free of cost, in order to receive the certificate, the participating students have to pay a fee of Rs.1000/- to NPTEL and complete an examination conducted by NPTEL/NTA 
  • Attendance: As per the University of Mumbai norm, a minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory for all classes and 100% for tutorials, guest lectures, seminars and events.
  • Evaluation: The institute focuses on a continuous evaluation process. It follows the University prescribed Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)which mandates that every student is required to complete 10 hours of learning in order to gain 01 credit points. The parameters for evaluation are attendance, class participation, case study analysis and discussion, online and offline class tests, assignments, projects, presentation and end-term examinations. The Evaluation comprises of Continuous Internal Evaluation of 40% and End Term Evaluation of 60%.
