Mr. P Arumugam is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai. Being a Faculty of your Department, what are your roles and responsibilities toward the students?
“To give practical knowledge, counseling, project guidance, and more for pupils”
Some of my basic duties include Teaching, Project Guidance, Counseling, mentoring, and Paper evaluation of students. I am always preparing material and providing practical knowledge for them. We encourage the students for Higher Education, Patent filing, and begin a start-up.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in Rajalakshmi Engineering College?
“Follow a friendly approach, feed students with meditation and a positive mindset on campus”
We always prefer a friendly approach when it comes down to the student’s level physically, and mentally. They can attain a positive mindset, and we suggest Meditation. It is keen on affirmations and excludes negative thoughts from pupils' minds.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach to subjects and make it industry-oriented?
“Provide Mechanical workings, Industrial Visit, and In-plant training for candidates”
Building an industry-oriented mindset is very crucial at this level of competition happening around. Our faculties bring out the habit of animated visuals of Mechanical workings, Industrial Visit, and In-plant training for students. All these enhance their practical skills in the outside world.

How do you strategize the curriculum and get updated to make it befitting for the students?

Campus curriculum is not just being decided by the management. It makes changes through the students’ feedback, employee feedback, and IIT Industry feedback. We gather the feedback of Alumni and collective Stakeholders. Additionally, we conduct Board of service meetings each year.

Placement in Rajalakshmi Engineering College has been Top notch despite Covid scenario. Most of them faced consequences in Covid crisis. Our students are among 240 and180 students who were placed in Top MNC’s last year. We provided 7-10 days of training to students in all Departments.
How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?
“Organize events and paper presentations for students on our campus”
Students are highly competitive nowadays. We participated in our students in the BAJA events and won Rs.1,25,000. They get the chance to demonstrate Paper presentations by themselves through various events.
What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education in Rajalakshmi Engineering College?
“Lack of interest to take notes and passing semesters after covid crisis by the students”
To be honest, Pandemic has changed the students and the Government in a liberal manner. We try to make students focus on clearing the papers. One of the challenges we faced is they were not interested in taking notes. To get passed in semesters becomes a tough task.
When you came to college, what was your vision and how to achieve the same?
“To develop students' skills as per industrial demand and provide employment opportunities”
Most of our students belong to Chennai, India. They are not aware of working in private and abroad-based opportunities. According to me, my vision is to develop their skills and set up a base in the industrial sector. It assists me to provide employment opportunities to job seekers. My slogan is to develop their own industry and have followed me till date.
How does the curriculum of Rajalakshmi Engineering College ensures the best practice of the industry?
“Provide accurate resources and clear advanced level doubts of pupils as per industrial demand”
The best practice at the moment in our college is the Smart Board. It has been commenced in an advanced manner. We provide google materials and other resources for students. It is currently useful to clear advanced level doubts of pupils.
