TOMS College of Engineering and Polytechnic conducted B.Tech Orientation Program

B.Tech orientation program was held on October 11, 2021. The program was started with a word of prayer. The welcome address was delivered by Principal, Joby Joseph sir which was followed by our Chairman, Tom T Joseph sir. The inaugural address was given by the Director, Dr. A J Paul sir. The department orientation was conducted by the respective Head of the Departments. 

Our alumni, Dr. Boby George Professor, IIT Madras was the guest of honor. He emphasized the importance of self-learning and self-evaluation. “We are not technically born, but it’s the upbringing which brings in the change mainly depending on the environment” was the main phrase that encouraged many students. It is the fundamentals that have to be strong and without it, it’s difficult to build on till the top to reach heights. Once the base foundation is strong the building gets stronger and firmer and goes high above the others. The two main points which he mentioned was the self-learning culture where people with the same motive should join together so that they can get the best results. The type of evaluation as in updating the current knowledge in the respective field will make it easier, to have a clear focus on the aim and help us to set an attainable goal.

A special career counselling session was conducted by Fr. Jeevan Augustine Mathew Kadalikattil. He advised the students to focus on having both academic and social life go hand in hand. In each human there is an angel hidden and it is their duty to chisel and carve out the masterpiece during this period there might be a lot of trials and problems but the student has to understand that it is for their betterment.

The orientation program came to an end, with a vote of thanks conveyed by Sheigha Pappachan.

IIChE Student Chapter Inauguration Report

TOMS college of Engineering, Mattakara, Kottayam successfully launched 'IIChE Student Chapter under the Department of Chemical Engineering TOMS college of Engineering through Online platform.
Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) is the premier professional organisation furthering the development of chemical, petrochemical and allied industries with respect to R&D, design and engineering, educational programmes and consultancy. Founded in 1947 by a small group of visionaries under the leadership of Dr. Hira Lal Roy, the Institute has more than 15,000 members in its fold.The session started with an opening prayer song by Ashly P. V (student)Welcome address was delivered by Er. Erlin Antony, Head of the Department,Chemical Engineering department, Toms College of Engineering. Er. Tom T Joseph Chairman, Toms College of Engineering addressed the gathering after the welcome speech. Official Inauguration was done by Chief Guest of the Event Sajo K. F Chairman IIChE- Kochi region centre after his inaugural address. Koya Venkata Reddy Hon Secretary, IIChE- Kochi region centre addressed the meeting after inauguration.Then section was then followed by Student’s Paper presentation where Ayush Ravi (S6 CH) presented a paper on ‘Chemicals and Chemical Engineers’ and Veni Sreekumar(S6 CH) presented ‘Advanced Oxidation process for the remediation of Liquid residue from thermal treatment of oily sludge’ The felicitation was delivered by Dr A J Paul, Director, TOMS College of Engineering and Ms. Christeena Mariam Thomas, Assistant Professor, Toms college of Engineering And finally, the vote of thanks is proposed by Student Representative Unnikannan R V. The entire session concluded with the National Anthem.
Mr.Mukul Omanan and Ms Sheigha Pappachan coordinated the event and helped in making the event a grand success. The speeches by all the members inspired the students a lot. All Faculties of TOMS College of Engineering and students from 1st to the 4th year of Chemical Engineering Department were present in google meet. Altogether the inaugural function of IIChE Student chapter at TOMS College, Mattakkara was a great success and all the members are very excited in taking forward this Student Chapter to greater heights.
