Mr. Kaptan Yadav is presently working as HOD - EN Dept and Head Advanced Technology Lab at Vision Institute of Technology, Kanpur. With a post-graduation in M.Tech from Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam University, Lucknow, he has several years of rich experience in teaching and research. He has attended several workshops, symposiums and conferences at national and international level, and has been assigned the responsibility of Advance Technology Lab Incharge in the Institute as well.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Constantly learning and having to improve for current trends”

Teaching and research in emerging technology are my passions. As an educator, I not only teach students, but also have to constantly improve and learn about current trends in my field, so that I am able to build and improve them. I always find myself more indulged and interested in research, student activities and their orientation for a better future. It is also a great opportunity to help students better understand the purpose of life. 

How does the curriculum of your department ensure the best practice of industry?

“Bridging in the gap between institution and industry”

Advanced Technology Lab is designed by academic and industry experts. Students get to work in a similar field to bridge the industry-institution and training is done to prepare for industry level. We tend to reduce the time, effort and resources that industrial students spend on the industry before they even tackle the actual project investigator. In AT Lab, we provide students an atmosphere where students can develop their projects as well as he/she can do their research works. We provide all types of components which are needed for advanced projects like Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Sensors, etc.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities are as the HOD?

“Shaping a vision of academic success and strong leadership”

Creating a hospitable climate for education and cultivating leadership in others are my roles as a HOD. I participate in managing people, data and processes with a humble yet strong leadership profile. Also, I improve academic curriculum and pedagogy to sustain student interest and welfare. I make learning relevant and develop a code of conduct employing a positive actions curriculum. In addition, I help students develop intrinsic motivation and reinforce positive behaviour among them.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education?

“Moving from campus life to the digital world”

Right now, the coronavirus pandemic is our biggest challenge. We run lessons digitally, and like many other institutions, the transition from the classroom to digital has been difficult as well as exciting at the same time. In the end, our challenge is not to be on campus right now. 

What do you see as the institute’s greatest strengths?

“Our lecturers and student-oriented working culture”

Here, we focus on the 360-degree development of students. Students have the opportunity to leave the classroom to gain real business and industry knowledge, expand their knowledge of workplace culture, and also improve basic workplace skills such as positive leadership and communication. The greatest strengths are the lecturers and non-teaching staff, who have done all the work with full commitment. Our institute teaches the students how to learn.

What valuable advice would you give to the students to have a prosperous career?

“Students should explore and make wise career decisions”

Don’t just focus on your books and it’s up to your teachers to decide. After you learn, focus on your ideas and implement them with the help of the department and professors. Practice the art of asking the right questions and being curious about everything. This is where the right questions are needed. It is a crucial source of learning. Anyone who has accomplished anything in their life has experienced many setbacks along the way. The key is how you learn from the inability to keep moving forward. Develop a strong imagination and carry your enthusiasm and passion.
