N Logesh is a Head of the Hotel & Catering Management in Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science, Chennai. As per the curriculum of the University of Madras, students go for Industrial Exposure Training in various hospitality sectors across the country. You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Research and Teaching connect me with the education sector”

Teaching and research are my passions. As an educator, I don’t just teach students. I also have to keep upskilling and learn the current trends.

Being the HOD of Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science, what is your philosophy of leadership and describe your leadership style?

“Direct and leading leadership style followed by me on campus”

High-quality teaching is the most powerful tool for helping students to achieve high scholastic standards. Therefore, what happens in the classroom matters the most. Teachers have the greatest impact on student growth and achievement. I would describe my leadership style as direct, and leading by example. I enjoy delegating tasks and taking the lead on projects, but I also like to stay involved and inspire my team by showing that I am working hands-on to help them too.

Being the HOD of College, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“Provide user experience, activate presence on social media, and develop a strategy for campus”

We attract more students with college marketing solutions. Our campus optimizes websites for search engine optimization. We target long-tail keywords on college’s website and develop a strategy for earning backlinks. Always consider the user experience, run pay-per-click (PPC) ads and an active presence on social media. 

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying in Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science?

“Learn to resolve conflicts, and maintain professionalism by students”

University will have taught you to resolve conflicts effectively and remain civil. It will equip you to deal with difficult people in the workplace. Learning to resolve conflicts and express your points clearly and directly at university helps you to maintain professionalism in your new graduate job.

How does the curriculum of University ensure the best practice of industry?

“Provide training and industrial exposures for pupils”

In this college, our curriculum is embedded with extensive industrial exposure through its 4-months training in a hospitality organization in various places. This training helps students understand different countries and their cultures. It helps them in becoming entrepreneurs. the curriculum is more responsible to industry needs and provides the students with skills for employment and positive work.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“Support racial diversity, self-reflection, and interactive sessions on campus for pupils”

Ultimately, studies show diversity in education particularly on college campuses. It improve intellectual engagement, self-motivation, citizenship, cultural engagement, and academic skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, or writing for students of all races. In order to create a learning environment, we authentically support racial diversity, and educators can start with self-reflection. Understanding oneself will reveal educators’ feelings, thoughts, and attitudes about race or how they influence interactions and expectations with students.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science and the students are?

“To provide knowledge, teaching and learning experience for all”

A University is a community of people, academics, administrators and students. We dedicated to learning, debate and discovery/dissemination of new knowledge. To achieve the maximum benefit from the teaching and learning experience, both students and the University must commit resources and effort. Both students and the University have responsibilities to ensure that the learning experience is the best. It can possibly be the responsibilities for me towards University and pupils. 

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Innovative projects to promote holistic personality development of students will be our top priority”

A good quality university bloom in an environment fosters competitiveness, creative thinking, innovation and so forth. It provides a learning environment that encourages working on innovative projects in order to promote holistic personality development for nurturing future leaders.

When you first came to Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science what was your vision?

“To empower the students and fulfill academic passion is my primary vision”

The Vision should be empowering the students. It should help to fulfill the academic and professional passion. We create innovative connections among education, humanities & social sciences.I have stepped a few steps greater than before. Initially It was like less awareness about the local knowledge and so on but now I am a few steps ahead.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

“Core values of imparting knowledge and focus on industrial trends on syllabus”

People should understand the core values of imparting knowledge, Interests, Hope & Difference on our campus. These are the main things that the University will focus on. So people should understand the benefits that the students will acquire by the university.

What do you see as College’s greatest strengths?

“Qualified faculties and Teaching Practises on campus are greatest strengths”

Highly qualified faculties are the greatest asset to campus. We provide Smart Teaching Practices, Industrial Exposure and expert guest lectures on campus. All these are the greatest strengths in our institution.

You need to regularly update yourself. Always try to get more practical knowledge than the curriculum.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment on Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science?

“Organize Mentee sessions, social, cultural and academic activities for students”

Our pupils are from different parts of the world. We schedule mentee sessions every week with a group of students. They are allocated to individual faculty mentors for any support in personal and professional life. We have a student Council as a separate unit. Our campus celebrates various social, cultural and academic activities beyond the classroom.
