Dr. Avnish Vijay is the Dean at Poddar Group of Institutions. He is a dynamic leader who has worked substantially to bring changes in the educational sector. He believes that transformation is inevitable and to prosper one must follow the technological advancements. Read here what he has to say in his interview. 

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“I work more like a coach”

I am a disciplined person with a soft heart. I believe that in this dynamic environment, you should keep on updating yourself. I always place immense importance on adopting the latest technology in teaching aids so that faculty members and students can also be acquainted. So, I always motivate my colleagues and students to learn and explore themselves. 

What are the key factors that keep you connected with this sector?

“The education sector is a challenging sector and at the same time a highly rewarding one” 

The education sector keeps me updated with current affairs. You get to learn new concepts, research, and technological developments. Every year, you interact with fresh young minds, which rejuvenate you and keep you energetic. It gives one tremendous satisfaction when you observe your students progressing and achieving great heights in their career. 

Any insights into how your Institute could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“There are many facilities for the meritorious students at our institution”

Poddar Group offers various courses with an economical fee structure. Apart from that, we offer many scholarships like merit scholarship, COVID warrior scholarship, BPL scholarships, etc. The deserving students can take admission in their desired course and fulfill their dreams. We have also registered with the Social Welfare department, so the eligible candidates get the respective government scholarships. All students, irrespective of their background, are given equal opportunities for training, add-ons, research, placements, sports, and cultural activities according to their caliber, interest, and other specific eligibility criteria.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the administration of PGI?

“We ensure to bring in various trending concepts for the students to learn and grow”

At the beginning of each session, we decide upon the various add-ons for the students and their regular subjects. We bring in the latest concepts in high demand by the industries or useful for higher studies. If required, various tie-ups are made with certain third parties. The teachers are trained for the add-on programs. The faculty members are also required to prepare a lesson plan for their respective subjects. It helps them prepare themselves for productive classes and covering the syllabi on time. 

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Institute and the students are?

“Students are given an exposure to various verticals”

Being a dean of Student Mentoring and Support, my role is to guide my students towards achieving their goals & arrange the facilities towards their overall development. Further, I also make sure that the students get fair chances of participation in various activities. According to the industry demand, we also conduct training and development classes to groom our students for corporate and Government Jobs. Besides, we also train them to become successful entrepreneurs.

What advice would you like to give to the youth who are yet to choose their field and Institute for higher studies?

“Students should pursue their passion”

My advice to the students looking for a great career is to follow their passion but not follow the trend. If you follow your passion or dream, then there are fair chances that you will excel in that area. As far as choosing an institute is concerned, they should look for a college/institute to get a blending learning environment. Today, you could be a topper, but if you do not have exceptional interpersonal skills or do not know how to present yourself, you will not succeed. So holistic development is essential, and if an institute provides you with this environment, you should go ahead with that.

What are the major challenges that you think a student faces while pursuing higher education? How should they overcome them?

“A lot of students lack the decision making power”

What I observed is that most of the students do not have goals in life. They choose what the parents, relatives, or friends suggest to them. So, in the process of their persuasion, they lack interest or do not perform well. Some even withdraw in between. Therefore, my suggestion would be to do a SWOT analysis first and determine the strengths and weaknesses one possesses. See what interests you, take your teachers' help in finding out your passion or power, and prepare yourself accordingly. I think right from the secondary board exams. The student should start doing this and then choose a subject and college/university that provides him/her with the best-suited platform.

What would you like people to know about PGI that they may not know?

“PGI is one of the most sought institutions in Rajasthan”

We always research market trends and introduce the add-ons accordingly, which helps a student develop the skills that are in demand. We have taught Business Analytics, Digital Marketing in BBA and MBA, Digital Marketing, Robotics, AI, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics in BCA. As these are professional courses mostly sought by the students looking for a career in corporates or want to become an entrepreneur, teaching them these add-ons makes them corporate ready.

What goals do you have in your mind for the Institute for next few years?

“We want to work as an autonomous college and provide industry relevant courses in future”

Soon, Poddar Group will work as an autonomous college and provide the courses in high demand by industry and prepare students for entrepreneurship. Today, India needs more entrepreneurs, so we would like to work as an institution that focuses on entrepreneurship as a skill & hones the highest number of entrepreneurs in India.
