Dr. Manish Billore is the Director-Placement of Oriental Group of Institutions. Being the Fourth-Generation teacher in his family, he explains why education is the best field to work in. He goes on to describe the philosophy of leadership. Paving the way for creating excellent education for the students, he mentions the effective pedagogical system they have developed for developing skill-oriented learning. Although there are voids in the current education system, they try to fulfill our curriculum based on industry feedback. The passion to disseminate knowledge and wisdom to as many youngsters possible keeps me connected to the education sector

I am a fourth-generation teacher in my family, thus connected with the education sector right from my childhood. This has given me the passion to spread knowledge and wisdom to as many youngsters as possible. As they say, a teacher remains a teacher for the entire life; and so has been my way of looking at the profession. In spite of the administrative and managerial responsibilities increasing day-by-day, I make classroom teaching and lab instructions as part of my daily routine, thus always connected with the students. Also, regular interactions with peers and policy makers enable me to develop a foresight for better education.

An effective leader leads from the front by setting an example

I strongly believe in leading by example. One can’t be a good instructor unless (s)he is a good doer. Also, a leader must be a good enabler, making the tasks challenging, not difficult for the team mates. Hitting small, sequential targets keeps the team motivated, finally reaching the big goal. In our sector of professional education, I believe mentoring is the most important aspect of leadership – whether guiding the students or leading a team of educators.

Most of our events are planned with a viewpoint of technological upskilling of our students

The best strategy is systemic dissemination of relevant information and activity updates, through various media such as Website, Facebook, Instagram, Newsletter etc. Our alumni who are highly placed across the globe, are our ‘brand ambassadors’. Also, thanks to the print media which doesn’t miss any chance to publish our good work and achievements. Most of our events are planned with a viewpoint of technological upskilling of our students, while some events are planned keeping their socio-economic awareness. Besides this, our CSR activities are solely planned and executed for the benefit of our society.

We, at Oriental, keep observing international trends and education as well as industrial needs. Based on this, we have developed the pedagogical system which includes not only theory, practical & tutorial sessions, but also skill-oriented training for effective learning and overall grooming of our students. There are voids which we try to fulfill in our curriculum based on industry feedbacks 

Being an institute affiliated to the state university RGPV, we religiously follow the prescribed curriculum. However, we also identify the curriculum gaps based on industry’s feedback, and fill them with our inputs ‘beyond curriculum’ as per guidelines of NBA. The activities include seminars, workshops, guest lectures, industrial visits, internships, industry-based projects etc.

We have been able to develop a multi-cultural, flexible, yet value-based environment at Oriental, which helps students with different geographical, cultural or economic backgrounds, adjust quickly in the peer group. Having such a culture on campus for more than two decades, the only discriminating factor is their proficiency and skill. An academic administrator has to be an inspiring teacher in the first place – and that’s what I have been trying to do all these years. Keeping our students and academic systems in the core, I make sure that the administrative systems are woven around, seamlessly helping the teaching-learning practices are always on top. Thus, my only responsibility is to serve the organization for ensuring continuous betterment of students.
