Dr. Ruchi Goswami is a dynamic professional with close to 15 years of experience in Teaching Journalism & Mass Communication, Public relations, Strategic Communication, Corporate Communication, Media Research as well as mainstream media. She has completed her bachelor's in BA Hons. English, master's in English, and Ph.D. in Journalism from Rajasthan University, Jaipur. She is currently working as Associate Professor at The IIS (Deemed to be University) Jaipur, Rajasthan. She is great at cementing healthy business relations with the various Media Ventures in the state. She has proven skills in negotiating with maintaining healthy relations with the internal & external public to meet corporate objectives. She is resourceful in making effective use of digital techniques & tools in support of strategic communication.

Being the Additional Head of the Journalism & Mass Communication Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Journalism and Mass Communication programs need a progressive, professional, lucrative approach to dealing with the students. It is essential that the department sees the important verticals of journalism and train the students up to the industry requirements. It is the need of the hour to prepare good journalists with a healthy approach to work in any media sector. In this digital age, students of Mass Communication should be well-equipped with the journalistic traits to become an integral part of the media industry.


How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

The faculty members should be free to excel in their specific areas to impart their best in all professional matters. A good leader can build a healthy and productive team to attain certain goals which prepare a base for a strong institution. Timely meetings and counseling sessions are organized to help the students to do better in their academics and other areas of concern


How do you try to bring a practical approach to subjects and make them industry-oriented?

The curriculum of Journalism and Mass Communication takes a practical and progressive approach.

Hands-on experience and practical training in the well-equipped Audio Visual studio, Community Radio Station with Smart Classrooms, and a strong industry interface help the students to know about the practicalities and challenges faced in the media industry. 


How do you strategize the curriculum and how often is it updated to suit student requirements?

The department conducts annual Board of Studies meetings to update the syllabi according to a professional and industry-oriented approach. Syllabic content is framed with the help of media industry experts and academicians all over the country in imp BOS meets. Feedback from fellow faculty members and students is a big help in updating the syllabi.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

The department conducts placement drives with the help of a placement cell. Students aspiring to become a part of the Print Media Industry, Electronic Media Industry, Advertising -Public Relations world, Film Industry, and Digital Media Industry in various technical and non-technical positions benefit from these drives. 


How do you help your student cope with the highly competitive world?

The students are apprised of the practicalities and competitions in the outer world by conducting industry interface programs, Guest Lectures, Industry Visits, and Media workshops.


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the students' skills or expose them to real-world challenges?

The department organizes Vividha -The Media Fest - a National level intercollege Media Fest every year where students from all over the country participate in various media activities. The department also conducts Moot Press Conference every year to understand the PR practices in the industry. The Students also make Documentaries, Fiction Films, Radio Features, and News Bulletins to enhance their skills. The department also brings out a quarterly newspaper Youthspeak which covers all academic and non-academic activities of the universities along with discourses on contemporary issues of concern.


What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

Our country requires good journalists. An active approach towards understanding the media industry and creating an inclination and liking for the subject is needed. 

Fulfilling the need of the hour students should be trained to inculcate traits required for a student pursuing journalistic studies.

What interventions and approaches do you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students?

Practical sessions and training, Workshops, Internships, and Media Tours/Academic visits, will surely help the media students to know the working culture in the media industry in a closeted way.


What valuable advice would you like to give the students for a prosperous career ahead?

The most important thing is the passion to be part of the media world which can help the student build a good career. Any vertical of media would seek employees who are hardworking, sincere, command over language and have a liking for the medium. With ample opportunities in the digital media world today, students can also become media entrepreneurs, social influencers, YouTubers, and Bloggers and be the lead generation.
