Professor Ramesh Kumar Choudhary is Vice-Chancellor of AP Goyal Shimla University, Shimla.Prof. Choudhary has authored ‘Testing of Fault Tolerance Techniques’ Published by Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany, “Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing 452” and “Advances in Intelligent Systems and computing 562” by Springer. He has been the Indian counterpart of four prestigious research and mobility projects of ERASMUS MUNDUS funded by the European Commission. He has been a visiting research scholar to the Association for Artificial Intelligence, Guangzhou University of Technology, China, and has been awarded lifelong membership to the Extension Engineering Specialized Committee. What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style? 

“We believe in Participatory Management”

The Dean Committee comprising all Dean of Faculties is the highest committee looking at day-to-day academic affairs. Students are also involved and have their say in all the decisions related to them. I believe in collective leadership. 

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your university? 

“We believe that diversity brings more learning opportunities”

There is a difference in India and other foreign countries' education systems, but gradually, the Indian education system is also acquiring a maturity level. Studying at AP Goyal Shimla University for inbound students is a different experience. Here, nature nurtures young minds. University Campus is highly conducive for learning and teaching for International students. International students feel the highest comfort level because of the cosmopolitan environment inside the campus. As we have students from 28 countries and 29 States, it gives students a diverse cultural background.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your college? 

“Shimla University is a student-centric university”

We strategize about our essential programs and plan to keep students in our minds always. Programs are designed considering the requirement of the industry so that students meet expectations of sectors after graduation. 

“My vision of the Institute was to significantly enhance student satisfaction, staff satisfaction, and student recruitment. I have been able to achieve in all three areas over the past year remarkably. However, it is a continuous endeavor.”

How does the curriculum of your university ensure the best practice of the industry? 

“We make sure to bring in practical approaches in our curriculum”

The University curriculum is curated and tailored, keeping the requirement of the industry in mind. We are giving exposure to students to a real-life project so that they should involve a problem-solving approach. We encourage critical thinking through various teaching and learning practices. 

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for AP Goyal Shimla university Shimla, specifically? 

“The future is bright for education sector”

The New Education Policy will bring massive transformation in the education system. It will be challenging for higher education to adopt the new approach for education. The teaching fraternity of AP Goyal Shimla University will have to meet the challenges of significant changes because of policy change. 

“My suggestion to youth and aspiring students is to come forward and move on in the pandemic's extraordinary circumstances. Deferring and indecisiveness is not going to help them and their family”

What are some plans that you're currently (or will be) designing for university and/or students? 

“Our focus is on holistic development of the students and institution”

We are currently working on deploying all meaningful technologies to implement a blended learning and assessment system. University is working on a plan to improve students' employability skills to meet the challenges for Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute? 

“We ensure a healthy learning and nurturing environment for students to grow”

AP Goyal Shimla University works as a single unit like a family. Constant interaction and meetings, social gatherings, sports, music, and extra-curricular activities keep a healthy vibration throughout the year on the campus. We vigorously promote community work and a few charity events that create healthy relations and the environment in our Institute.
