ICFAI University HOD Department of Education: Dr. Shiv Narayan Interview

Mr. Shiv Narayan is the In-charge and Head of Department, Education at ICFAI University Raipur. He has been a part of this institute since 2018. Before joining ICFAI, he has worked on top academic positions at various academic institutions in the region. He has completed a Master in Hindi, Philosophy and has also done M.Ed. Having completed his Ph.D. he believes in developing modern academic policies that fit the needs of the New-age student. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By ensuring that students understand the support and motivation their teachers give them”

Being helpful to everyone is the key, which is the hallmark of ICFAI group. This creates a positive atmosphere in the University campus. It motivates everyone here to give their best for the upliftment of the institution. Understanding a student's problem and try to resolve the same helps us maintain healthy relations with them. Students need to feel that the teachers in the classroom care for them and support them in all their circumstances. Consequently, the students feel more connected to the faculty at the college and feel more trust in them.

How do you make sure the subjects you are teaching are industry-focused and practical?

“A focus on modern subjects like AI, ML and research work for industry ready students”

We try to develop the curriculum in such a way that the same can connect the students with industries. For example, we have recently introduced a course on data science for physicists. We also focus on research work for the students who want to go for higher education and Ph.D. programs. We provide certification courses in advanced technologies like Machine learning and Artificial intelligence to make students comfortable in industry. Our courses are updated regularly so that our students leave here familiar with the most recent technologies used in the industry.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“The Board of Studies reviews the course content every year and updates are made accordingly”

The curriculum of the department is designed, based on the current demand in view of higher education and also as per the market survey. Before the start of every semester we used to take the concern of external experts from academic as well as industry. Those experts include people from NITs, IIts as well. Based on their views we modify our course structure through the Board of studies. The Board of Studies of the concerned department used to review the course content every year and update as per the need. Curriculum based on new approaches.

What has been your vision for this organization?

“To establish a department of Education and enable modern pedagogy”

Upon joining the University, my priority was to teach the students efficiently, as well as to establish a department of Education, where all good students want to enrol. We are on our way to achieving the same and hope to achieve it soon.

How does the University enhance the skills of the faculty?

“Continuous training through FDP’s, and skill conferences”

The faculty members can prepare themselves according to the industry standards by attending various Faculty Development Programs, National/International Conferences/Symposiums. In addition to paper publication, articles and research proposals enhance faculty skills.

What do you see as the University’s greatest strengths?

“A university's greatest strength is its ethical stance and academic excellence”

Ethics and Academic excellence are the supreme strength of the University. We may enhance the academic part by introducing more industry-oriented certificate courses and providing updated and quality education to the students.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students?

“Hard Work, persistence and perseverance are mandatory”

Developing responsibility, loyalty, and a passion for their work are essential traits for students in the modern world. I am confident our students will succeed in their future endeavours. From a long-term perspective, ICFAI University will become an educational landmark.
