Dr. K Lakshmi Prasad is a Principal of B. V. Raju Institute of Technology, Vishnupur, Narsapur. He worked as Principal & Dean at Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) Visakhapatnam. He did his graduation from JNTUA, Anantapur(1979-83) and post-graduation from IIT Bombay (1983-85). He pursued his doctoral and research work at IIT Bombay. He handled two sponsored research and development projects worth 3.8 crores sponsored by the Dept of Science & Technology, MHRD, Govt of India 2014-18 as Principal Investigator. He is a member of Indian Society for Technical Education- MISTE, Board of studies in Architecture and planning, and served as a Chairman. Dr Lakshmi Prasad Published 27 papers in International refereed Journals, International and National conferences.

What is the latest program that you are offering in B V Raju Institute of Technology in recent years?

“B.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence, Minor Degree in Data Science, CSE (AI & ML) and more are the latest programs in our campus”

Latest programs in our campus include B.Tech. in CSE (AI & ML), CSE (Data Science) with Intake of 120, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Computer Science and Business Systems, and more. In these new age programs, students will build and train neural network architectures such as Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks, etc. they also learn how to master theoretical concepts, their industry applications using Python and TensorFlow and tackle real-world cases such as speech recognition, music synthesis, chat bots, machine translation, natural language processing, and many more. Apart from the above, for admission into our regular B.Tech. (Biomedical Engineering) and B.Tech. (Pharmaceutical Engineering) programs, Intermediate Bi.PC stream students are also eligible.

What are your views on the future of education in the rapid trend of technological addition in every course curriculum?

“High demand with the opportunity of a career boasting at a high growth rate”

I feel new age technologies are in high demand with the opportunity of a career boasting at a high growth rate. All industries now have a multitude of applications with automation and digitalization, which is the primary reason why there is a high demand for jobs in that field. The courses related to Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Robotics, Autonomous Vehicles, AR/VR/MR, IoT, Quantum Computing, Blockchain Technologies, Simulators, Automated Design tools, Space Engineering, Satellite Communication, Life Sciences, Solar Technologies, Entrepreneurship, etc. are the demand of the hour. These courses are already imbibed in our revised curriculum to nurture the students to be industry ready.


How do you tend to build an industry connection with the new roles that are being offered by companies?

“Participation of Industry Experts in Statutory bodies and leverage connections with industries”

We always stay in touch with the Alumni. They are former students who have “been there and done that”. Make sure to update the database of the institute's Alumni (especially the ones who are into Recruiting) and seek their help in bringing in New and reputed companies to the campus. LinkedIn is meant to-make-connections. There are many recruiters out there on LinkedIn who are Interested in Campus recruitment solutions. All we do is to connect with them and communicate with them regarding either online campus recruitment or offline recruitment process. Participation of Industry Experts in Statutory bodies is also mandatory. All the statutory bodies of our institute like Board of Studies, Academic Council, Governing Body comprise of various Industry Experts as the stakeholders for mentoring the institute for overall development. The industry liasoning offices set up at various metropolitan cities of the country aim and tend to build connections with various industries and opportunities. In addition to the above, collaborations with various industry bodies like CII, NASSCOM, IIC, ICT, etc. leverage the connection with various industries.


What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating the new program in your curriculum?

“Adopting a new curriculum with dynamically upgrading technologies is the greatest challenge”

With technology advancing at an unparalleled speed and scale, the process by which educational institutions develop and adopt new curriculum no longer moves fast enough to prepare young people for the future of work. Our curriculum development and implementation processes often take years and may be decided without the input of local or regional employers. They’re so time-consuming that even cutting-edge skills or information can be outdated when the new curriculum is adopted. The enrichment of expertise of the faculty on these dynamically upgrading technologies is a barrier that has to be addressed


What are the key factors that are being considered while adding a new course?

“Adaptability, application orientation, innovation and creativity are the key factors in our courses”

Few primary factors in our course include Innovation or Creativity, Need and Demand, Application orientation and Consistency. Adaptability is the essential key to our success.

It is always good to have a practical insight into any technology that you are working on. Though textbooks and other study materials provide all the knowledge that you need to know about any technology. One can’t really master that technology until and unless you work on real-time projects.
