Mr. Mihir Nayak is a Principal in the Biju Patnaik Institute Of Information Technology And Management Studies, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He served as Registrar in Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). He was responsible for administration of the University and ensuring affiliated colleges to produce successful professionals. He also served as a IIPM Director and created a competitive workforce for Tata Refractories Limited, Belpahar as General Manager. His interested areas are Transactional Analysis, Emotional Intelligence for the Organizations like NALCO, HINDALCO, JINDAL, NPCIL, MAPS, TEGA, and ADITYABIRLA. He has more than 31 years of experience now working as Principal of BIITM, Bhubaneswar.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Transformation in society and the view of a better world tomorrow through education”

An individual can move from darkness to light through education. Some of the factors that connect me with the education sector is transformation in society and a better world tomorrow. Education is the key to serve society, Industries and national benefits. We implement recent trends in society and industry into our curriculum for better learning to students. 

What is your philosophy of leadership in Biju Patnaik Institute Of Information Technology And Management Studies?

“To lead from the front, empower people and build an adaptable team”

My leadership philosophy is to lead from the front. Leaders need to empower people to make right decisions and develop a culture of kindness in the workforce. Don’t deviate from decisions and always connect with stakeholders for students' benefit. We believe in team building, Synergy, Resilience, Adaptability and Progressive. Our philosophy is to grow together in a work culture with coordination. 

How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing and administration of your school?

“Provide course programs, and focus on holistic development of pupils”

Our aim is to give management education for both Undergraduates & Post Graduates. We nurture students through mentoring and focus on holistic development of the students in academics. They get industrial and corporate learning from the campus. We provide various course programs and give good resources to faculties to fulfill their duties for students. Our campus serves different industries and other academic institutions of the state.

How does the curriculum of BIITM ensure the best practice of industry?

“Provide add on programs, industrial visits and online courses for students”

Our campus contains an Institutional Board of studies to ensure industrial requirements for students. Employers, Alumni, Students and Faculty members are our stakeholders and update curriculum within the correct period. We also prepare a final report for the University for revision. Add on programs, industrial visits and online courses are available for pupils. Online courses for the students as per industry expectations like Marketing Analytics, Digital Marketing, Advance excel etc. 

What do you think is the top priority of campus for the next 10 years?

“To get NBA and NIRF ranking in the upcoming academic year on campus”

One of the primary goals is to get NBA and NIRF ranking in the upcoming academic year. Another one is to give Industry ready programs and incorporate changes in a dynamic mode. Hence, our education system gets aligned with the need of the hour, like online or virtual mode with hybrid mode flexibility. We decide to adapt various AI and Machine Learning based systems to make our students more productive in their work field seamlessly.

What do you see as the greatest strengths of Biju Patnaik Institute Of Information Technology And Management Studies?

“Placements, faculties, and students are the greatest strengths of campus”

The greatest strengths of campus are faculties and students. Other matters include training, placements and good learning ambience on campus. Campus placements strengthen our leadership, encourage staff and faculties as a team. We are located in the heart of Odisha capital and surrounded with various industries makes learning more experiential.

What are the biggest challenges you see for higher education and BIITM?

“Low gross enrolment ratio in higher education and lack of academic autonomy for campus”

One of the biggest challenges for higher education is low gross enrolment ratio. It is addressed earlier when we begin from UGC, AICTE till Institution. I always see it difficult to fulfill growing expectations of students and corporations. Another challenge faced for campus is non-autonomous. Academic autonomy is not in the institute's hands and we face difficulty to address the corporates.
