Dr. Anup Mishra is the Principal at Bhilai Institute of Technology, Raipur. He has done his B.E. and M.Tech. from Pt. P.S.S.U, Raipur and Ph.D. from Barkatullah University, Madhya Pradesh. He has 24 years of teaching experience and has published a total of 56 international papers in Journals. He is also an active member of the Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi, India.

As a college faculty, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"To guide students on the right path to achieve success"

Once the student becomes part of our Institute, we play the role of a Mentor, not just the faculty, which caters to the overall development of the student in addition to academics. I feel that a faculty is a pathfinder for student goals and achievement, and the same is going to do with the top of the level by my side.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

"We take regular advice from the industry people and design our curriculum"

We conduct more and more activities for students, like hands-on training, workshops, lectures from Industry persons, Industry based Internships, Industrial visits. Here at BIT, Raipur, we believe that the practical portion is the most important part of the curriculum as it helps students understand the concept of theory. 

What are the best practices offered by your college to provide necessary skills to students? 

"Our college follows an outcome-based education by developing course plans with objectives and outcomes"

The college has always encouraged students to pursue internships/training to gain necessary problem-solving skills. The Institute offers student services like counselling, placement training, personality grooming, conducts Continuous Evaluation, etc.

How does your department prepare students for Higher education? 

"Our faculty counsel students regarding the importance of higher studies"

We try to provide excellent infrastructure and competent faculty members to prepare students for higher education. Faculty members guide them in solving questions from competitive exams in the classroom and clear their queries.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practice of the industry?

"Curriculum covers a wide range of theory as well as practical courses"

We try to keep our curriculum in line with the requirements of the industry. For that, we take regular feedback on our courses from the best in the education sector and industry. Based on their feedback, we keep updating them from time to time. This helps us prepare our students according to the requirements in the industry, making them employable. 

How does your college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?

"We conduct skill upgradation sessions for the faculty and provide them with the latest courses available to upgrade their skills"

A self-appraisal system is practiced in the institute which motivates the faculty members to indulge in continuous improvement, they are also required to upgrade their qualifications, do research publications regularly, attend faculty development programmes, etc, to enhance their knowledge and skills. We believe that learning is a process that should be continuous as technology is changing rapidly, so teachers need to be in line with it in order to impart quality education to the students.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for a prosperous career ahead? 

"Time management is the key to success"

My advice to students is to focus on learning skills conceptually rather than simply memorizing for the sake of marks, develop an all-around personality to have a prosperous career ahead. In today’s time, the value of skills in the market is much more than mark sheets, so better keep that in mind and plan your career.
