Mr. Raja Ram Meena has been working as the Head of Mathematics Department at Alankar Mahila P.G. Mahavidyalaya, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He has done B. Sc. and M. Sc. as part of his Academics and has also cleared CSIR NET exam in 2016. He has a total of 5 years of teaching experience. His area of interest is Pure and Applied Mathematics and he has sound knowledge of Computers, Microsoft Office and SCI Lab. His hobbies include singing, listening to music and playing sports.

Being the Department Head, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"It is to provide best education and facilities to students and supervising departmental activities"

As a Department Head, my responsibility is to maintain discipline among students and ensure that they become good human beings while becoming a proficient professional in their respective areas. In addition to this, providing them with the finest quality education and amenities, upgrading teaching resources and methodologies as per changing industrial and academic requirements also comes under the scope of my responsibilities.

How do you establish health relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By being a good communicator, listener and trusted person for them"

To maintain a healthy relationship with my dear students and colleagues, I use the methodology of regular, transparent, trustworthy communication and I listen to them carefully while interacting with them. And also I make my help and support available for them whenever they need me. At our Department, we have given a positive forum to students through which they speak freely with us, give their suggestions and also provide solutions for problems which we would assign to them regularly.

How do you introduce a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"By improving my teaching techniques and taking feedback from students regularly"

For the purpose of enforcing a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects, I use amalgamation of both theoretical and practical teaching, use case studies as examples, and take feedback from experienced teachers about what could be included to make the subject more interesting for students. Along with this, I try to create such an environment in the classroom which can allow a more natural flow of communication.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum of your college to make it befitting for the students?

"By analyzing and considering industry standards and students needs"

We design and update the curriculum of our institute by keeping in mind a very simple fact and that is the sole motive of this curriculum is not providing the best lesson plans or developing perfect in-class projects and assignments, instead, it's about fulfilling the needs of our students in a way that ensures that subject is understood and applied in and out of the classroom. Hence we keep ourselves updated with the latest trends and developments of the industrial world and keep taking suggestions from the experts whenever required.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

"We give our full support and guidance to students via training and counseling sessions"

I am happy to say that after understanding the scopes in the Mathematics field, students are showing interest in Data Analysis and Computer language based jobs. Industrial visits and placement oriented training are conducted by us as and when required and we keep guiding them about the application process, preparation and exams they can give to pursue higher education.

How do you prepare your students to cope up with the outside competitive world?

"By encouraging them to upskill themselves in latest technologies and creating a conducive learning ambiance"

Allowing students for social connectivity within the classroom teaches them skills like time management and the importance of acknowledging each other's effort. Apart from this, numerous career-related expert presentations, webinars and workshops on a variety of topics are organized by us to upskill students and make them confident enough to face this world with more courage.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

"Diverse range of activities from music, games to cultural events and competitions are arranged by us"

Our college firmly believes that co-curricular activities are as important as academics for students all around growth and development. Hence a diverse range of activities such academic competitions, research or writing sessions, sports and games, scouts, art, theatre, music and community service programs are regularly organized by us to supplement the knowledge they receive from curriculum and to augment their educational experience.

What challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your department?

"Shifting students focus towards their studies and career after Covid is biggest issue for us"

As we all have witnessed, post Covid, the education system of our country has undergone a series of changes and our department has not remained untouched. And a few roadblocks in front of us currently are lack of teamwork in students and their careless behaviour towards their studies and life goals, I mean they are not serious about anything at all. I make sure to eradicate such misconducts and motivate my team during meetings and discussion sessions to work efficiently.

What approaches do you bring in apart from the curriculum to teach the students?

"Seminars, guest sessions and webinars are organized by us to supplement students knowledge"

We monitor the academic progress and performance of our students by giving them feedback after assessment or during classroom teaching as well. In addition to this, we organize events like seminars, webinars, guest lectures and appropriate training programs as per our students' needs, to strengthen their subject knowledge, and to make them technically proficient aware about the working and expectations of the corporate world.
