Dr. A. Shanmugapriya has done MCA, M. PHIL and P. HD and is currently the vice principal and head department of computer science in RV Arts and Science College. She did her under graduate from Ramakrishna engineering college, MCA from bharathiyar university, an M.Phil. at Kongunadu college of arts and science college, and a Ph.D. from Ramakrishna college for women. she had 15 years of experience in education and 5 years of experience in the industry. She has published 5 research papers in her area of specialization of data mining.
Being a Vice Principal what are the Roles and responsibilities towards the students?
"We offer extra courses, certifications, and trendy languages like python and C, C++"
In this technological world, connecting education and industry is my primary objective. In addition to the bharathiyar University curriculum, we offer extra courses, certifications, and trendy languages like python and C, C++, and certification programs that we embed within the students' education and prepare them to place in the best industry and to make students strong in IT industry. This is a competitive world so based on industry orientation we are shaping the students.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
"My passion is teaching, and leading comes naturally to me"
My passion is teaching, and leading comes naturally to me. Good leaders are self-aware, gain credibility, and put a strong emphasis on developing relationships. I am in this vice principal position because of my passion and the quality of my leadership. Am a resource person for many faculty development programs and I always do extra work which is capable of me apart from the allotted work.
What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?
"I'll increase my research efforts and integrate new technologies to propel my college to the top"
I'm very much comfortable in this teaching field because of my management, and their freedom approach towards all faculties. Next level, I need to put in a lot of work to make my college one of the best in the top 5. With the support of the management, I'll increase my research efforts and integrate new technologies to propel my college to the top.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects that make it industry oriented?
"We have a different club department-wise"
As I mentioned, we conduct more workshops and seminars there where we perform hands-on training. We also have better facilities than an engineering college, and every semester we conduct seminars and additional courses with hands-on training to develop students’ skills and also, we have different clubs department-wise where students upskill their practical as well as technical knowledge.

How does your college prepare students for placements?
"We conduct placement training every semester for 3 to 4 months"
I'm also one of the coordinators for the placement cell, and we have signed an MoU with Young Star which is doing placement outsourcing. They conduct placement training every semester for 3 to 4 months. Other than syllabus time, they demonstrate a 100% skills development program for those who are undertaking placement training. We encourage students to participate in on-campus and off-campus interviews and former students are assisting with job placement for current students. Also our former students will discuss with current students who all are attending placements training.
Do you have any extracurricular activities or programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?
"We have separate clubs where both technical and nontechnical students can join and perform"
In addition to the NPTEL course, certification course, and courses linked with Bharathiyar university, we also organize workshops and attend courses outside the institution. However, our criterion is that everyone should complete the certification for examination. Sports like kabaddi cricket and badminton are available for both boys and girls in addition to classes. Additionally, we have separate clubs where both technical and nontechnical students can join and perform as part of their extracurricular activities.
When you came to the college what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?
"My goal is to get my college into the top five positions"
As I mentioned before, my goal is to get my college into the top five positions. To do this, I'll work as hard as I can no matter where I am. This was my goal when I joined, and I'll continue to work hard to reach it. And also, to take this as a passion I can go wherever and do whatever I can to develop and shape my college to the top position.
How does the department or college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry orientation?
"We had signed an MoU with ICT Academic to enrich the knowledge for faculties"
Upskilling or development for Faculty must not only be for students but also advance to bridge the gap between students and studies. For the semester, we ran a faculty development program, and a knowledge program, and we signed an MoU with ICT Academic to enrich the knowledge for faculties. ICT also ran additional programs for all the colleges near Coimbatore, to develop faculties skills, and our college faculty regularly used to attend the outside college program to sound like they had the most recent information.

What valuable advice would you like to give students so they have a prosperous career ahead?
"When students connect between industry and education then students can grow themselves as well as career"
Without cell phones, children wouldn't be able to interact with professors or the world at all. The only moral lesson they could not share with the pupils about using mobile devices was how horrible it is; yet, it is not bad, and they can utilize mobile devices for a reason. They ought to be moral. If they employ this technology, they can bring world organization to a new level; else, they won't graduate with a high grade. This technology should advance independently and not jeopardize the students' careers. The next generation will build a link between industry and education. When students connect between industry and education then students can grow themselves as well as their career.
