Prof. (Dr.) Saradindu Panda has been working as the Principal of Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex, Kolkata, West Bengal. He has done BE (UIT, BU), M. Tech (VLSI, JU), PhD - Tech (NIT, DGP), IEEE CASS Kolkata Section IQAC Member of Swami Vivekananda College, Rahara, Ramakrishna Mission MIEEE, MIASSE, MIEI, MIETE, MIAENG, MCSTA, MIRED, MIAE, MITEEA as part of his academics. How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By addressing their issues on time and regularly communicating with them to make sure they feel important"

Being the Principal, I regularly interact with my students and amazing team of faculty members to make sure our relationship with each other remains healthy and positive. And our main motto behind regular communication with the students is to address their personal and academic issues which they definitely will not tell us frequently and openly, and fix them on time. Also, we get to know their keen interest and passions through our interaction and this helps us to arrange suitable training programs and industrial exposure for them. And when it comes to faculty members, I provide them my full support, assistance and guidance in case of need and make sure their grudges get resolved on time and they remain updated with this dynamic and challenging world.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

"It is designed after rigorous analysis of industrial requirements and developments hence ensure best practices"

We design and update the curriculum of our college after rigorous analysis and research of latest developments, trends, requirements and standards of both the educational and industrial world. And as time permits, suggestions are taken too from corporate experts and Academicians to do necessary modifications in it. And with no doubt, it is a perfect amalgamation of best courses, co-curricular activities and events and practical learning experience. Apart from this, research activities which our faculties conduct on a regular basis adds to their knowledge and also enriches knowledge of our Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in return. Lastly, we arrange world class training programs for students to transform them into next generation scholars who are well-prepared to advance knowledge, transfer technology and fix society problems.

How do you prepare your students to deal with the outside competitive world?

"By motivating them to do more research projects and continuously upgrade their skills"

Our students are smart, collaborative and have amazing Entrepreneurship skills to start something on their own. And as and when required, they use the creative space of our college to actualize their potential. And to make them ready for the outside competitive world, we regularly encourage them to do more innovative projects and brainstorm amazing business ideas. Additionally, we facilitate customized and quality training programs for students to improve their professional communication skills, make them socially and culturally aware and ready for leadership roles in organizations. Which extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

We truly believe that extracurricular activities are a must to ensure complete development of students in addition to academic learning, hence our students are regularly exposed to a variety of fresh opportunities. And guest lectures, industrial visits, vocational training programs are organized by us on a regular basis and we also offer best internship opportunities to students and assign real time projects to help them utilize their classroom learning and build new skills. Apart from all this, chapters of international process groups have been established too to make sure students stay updated with the outside world on a national and international level. 

When you joined this college as a Principal, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

I passionately believe that we are all born with tremendous capabilities, but we lose these as time goes by and ironically this can be directly attributed to the current education system which stifles the creative senses rather than enhancing it. Hence, Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology which was earlier known as Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College was started with the aim of providing top quality education to students and becoming a world-class technical and scientific research institution. Hence, since its inception in 2009, SurTech under the aegis of JIS Group has continued in subtle ways to pour fresh knowledge, human capital, and innovation into the engines of our society and nurturing a new generation of young professionals who are prepared to face the ever-changing social, economic, and technological landscape of our country in order to build a more inclusive and sustainable society on a national and international scale. How do you think the education sector has changed in recent years with changing technologies?

"Evolving technologies have transformed the education sector to a great extent"

Before telling our approach to make our subjects industry oriented, I would like to tell you the pattern that has been there for a long time. So earlier, Industry 4.0 was there whose emphasis was on Automation and now Industry 6.0 has come into picture and it talks about Artificial Intelligence. And these evolutions are not restricted to Teach Engineers and even non-technical persons and non-engineering students can learn them with hardwork and determination. To illustrate this, I would like to take an example of a Painter, and as we all know they love to draw and paint, so they have the option of becoming a full time Animator or Painter itself, so overall crux here is that with changing time, technologies and requirements the education is transforming very rapidly and opening doors of opportunities for everyone.
