Mr. Arindam Mukherjee is currently working as HOD-Automobile engineering at Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex, Kolkata. Having six years of experience in teaching, he is a M.Tech. in Production Engineering. His research areas include Friction Stir Welding and Conventional Welding Processes, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Operation Research and Production Management. He is also a member of several professional bodies like International Institute of Organized Research and presently working as the President of Institutional Innovation Council.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations within your college?

“Mutual support and better understanding with faculty and students”

The fundamental bond between me and all our faculty members lies in the honest efforts put by all of us to transform the lives of our students. We maintain a healthy working atmosphere by listening to the viewpoints and needs of students, helping to fix their goal and channelize their inner energy to achieve them. We identify and share their strengths and weaknesses; and also provide ways and means to get rid of the limitations by hand-holding each other. 

How do you help your students to cope up with the high competition outside?

“Effective and practical oriented teaching-learning processes”

Automobile Engineering is completely based on practical applications, and every day there is a new development, thus we sincerely focus on practical based learning methodology. We try to explain the fundamentals vividly and for the application part, we demonstrate those in the Laboratory classes. Apart from the theory and laboratory classes, it is the regular Trainings i.e. Industrial, Beyond Curriculum and Technical; Internships and Industrial Visits, which helps our students to cope with the competition that exists in the outside world.

How do you bring in a practical approach towards the subject?

“Seminars, research and project based learning”

We organize seminars and webinars regularly, where the resource persons from the industries demonstrate and discuss the current technological trends. Students are allocated with innovative projects, where they can understand the subject details with exceptional clarity. We also guide them to write research papers of their project works to help them in their higher studies.

How do you enhance the skills and expose students to real world challenges?

“Activities to explore and learn more”

We offer workshops under the SAE collegiate club, and various competitions of Design and Development of Vehicle such as SUPRA SAE, BAJA SAE, Efficycle SAE, etc. that aid students in critical thinking and innovation. Entrepreneurship development skills under Institutions Innovation Council and Skill Development Courses are also designed. College fest - Cultural and Technical, Debate and Quiz competitions, Vehicle Body Design contests, etc. are conducted in order to improve students’ skills.
