Kindly give a brief about your qualifications and achievements?

"I am PhD Degree holder and have 10+ years of experience in the education sector"

I have been working as an Assistant Professor in the Science and Humanities Department with Chennai Institute of Technology for the last 6 years. And before joining here, I have worked for 6 years in a few other reputed institutions as well. 

And talking about my educational background, I did B.Sc in Chemistry from Holy Cross College in 1998, M.Sc in Chemistry from Gandhigram Rural Institute in 2001 and M.Phil in Chemistry from St. Joseph College in 2004. After some time, I did my PhD and that again in Chemistry from Bharathidasan University in 2021. The topic of my PhD thesis was Analytical Chemistry. 

What are your roles and responsibilities for the University and students?

"It is to work in line with University standards and offer good knowledge to students"

Being an Assistant Professor of the college, my responsibility is to work and educate my students in line with University standards and industrial requirements. And developing the curriculum as per University guidelines and maintaining compliance in all the activities which we organize in our college throughout the year also comes under my scope of work. And if I talk about the students, then inculcating best technical knowledge and ethical values in them, resolving their academic and non-academic issues and queries, and producing competent and confident Engineers who can serve the society in the best possible way is also my prime accountability towards them.

Which latest program are you offering in your department to help students stand apart from the crowd?

"We are offering courses related to core subjects of Science such as Physics, Chemistry and Maths"

The Department of Science and Humanities is a multidisciplinary department which lays the profound foundation for all other Engineering disciplines. And our department comprises major courses related to subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. Also our programs offer a strong basis to the students in pursuit of holistic science and technology knowledge.

What kind of laboratories are established by your department to conduct practical experiments? 

"We have subject specific labs along with a Computer Centre in our college"

Our department has an amazing team of highly educated and experienced faculty members and we have established modernized laboratories to conduct experiments to strengthen students' technical concepts. And following are the four labs our department has entrenched to nurture a research culture among the students.

On what types of projects your students are working on through the programs they are pursuing?

"They are doing many chemical experiments and developing projects related to water problems"

In our college, Chemistry is a common subject for all the departments of the BE and B.Tech program and the curriculum which we follow in our college is designed and updated by the Anna University to which we are affiliated. And our students are currently developing projects to solve issues like water related problems and to create awareness among people about the water quality parameter etc. Because these are the kind of problems which people face in their day to day life as well, so our main aim is to provide out of the box solutions to them through our students' projects. And students are also conducting various types of chemical experiments which allows them to explore the possible areas people could or are facing the issue.

I firmly believe that the kind of employment oriented education which we offer to our students makes us strong and resilient. Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

"Do more experiments and strengthen your concepts by focusing on practical learning"

I would suggest to my students and youths of our country to focus on practical learning and conduct more practicals so that they can learn in depth about their subjects concepts. Because, by simply studying theory, they won’t gain full knowledge and its implications. Also, keep upgrading your skills from time to time and live your life to the fullest.
