The University of Kiel (or CAU) is a learning community devoted to collaboration between four priority research areas: KMS - Kiel Marine Science, KLS - Kiel Life Science, KiNSiS - Kiel Nano Surface & Interface Science, and SECC - Societal and Cultural Change.

The University of Kiel is one of only 17 top German universities that enrols over 25,000 students. Programs offered by the University of Kiel include over 190 undergraduate and postgraduate programs, all bachelor's degree programs are being just taught in German but various master’s degree programs are provided in English as well. Also, the university has several institutions that offer services to doctoral students and specific offers for foreign doctoral students.

  • The institute opens applications for summer and winter sessions.
  • While submitting applications through Hochschulstart, if students get their university entrance qualification after January 16 of the year they are applying, the application can still be submitted until July 15.

University of Kiel International Students Admission

Students with certificates from foreign educational institutions are expected to have completed secondary education with college preparatory curriculum, fulfilled the minimum grade point equivalency, met the appropriate deadlines, provided required official academic records, and verified financial support for one academic year

Visa Process for International Students

Students can apply for a German student visa to study in Germany after seeking acceptance from the university. Generally, students are issued with a national visa which is issued if anyone wants to study or do a doctorate or research. Therefore, students will be required to submit the following documents while appearing for a visa interview:

  • Health insurance coverage,
  • Proof of any academic achievements already completed,

University of Kiel Graduate Admissions

The University of Kiel offers graduate courses in both English and German. The university offers courses of study such as Computer Science, Economics, English and American Literatures, Culture and Media, Environmental and Resource EconomicsMaster of Science in Molecular Biology and Evolution (MAMBE) to students who want to pursue courses in English.

Academic requirements: The University expects the students to fulfill the criteria of minimum grade of 2.5, knowledge of foreign languages, practical activities, etc. Therefore, international students are also mandated to meet the minimum criteria set by the university regarding the scores of English Language Proficiency Tests.

Ques. Does the University of Kiel offer financial aid?

Ans. The university provides a limited number of scholarships but provides Interim Financial Aid to the international students who are not responsible for their situation of financial emergency, have successfully carried out their studies, and have a well-founded passing their examinations prospects by the end of the given financial assistance period.

Ques. What are the job prospects of a Master's Degree in Environmental and Resource Economics of Harvard Business School?

Ques. Due to limited postal services, I am unable to send my documents by post. What should I do?

Ans. For the winter term an online-only application is possible for all degree programs, except medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies.

This means that you can simply submit your application electronically via the uni-assist online portal. So you don’t need to send any documents by post.

Ques. Can I apply without yet having completed my Bachelor’s degree?

Ans. Yes, this is possible. Instead of a copy of Bachelor’s degree certificate students can submit a provisional transcript of records stating that they are missing less than 30 ECTS for completing their degree. However, the official degree certificate must be submitted no later than the December 10 for the winter term and June 10 for the summer term.
