NATA 2023 Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme and Section-wise Syllabus

NATA 2023 Exam Pattern is released by the Council of Architecture along with the official brochure. As per NATA 2023 Exam Pattern, the exam will be conducted for a duration of 3 hours in online mode. There will be a total of 125 questions which will comprise of Multiple-Choice type, Multiple Select Type (MSQ), Preferntial Choice Type (PCQ), Numerical Answer Type (NAQ), and Match the Following type Questions (MFQ).

The questions will be of 1 mark, 2 mark and 3 marks. The medium of NATA 2023 will be English. However candidates can expect questions in regional languages as well. As per NATA 2023 Syllabus, the questions asked will be designed to assess candidate’s knowledge on basic concepts of mathematics, physics and geometry, language and interpretation, elements and principles of design, aesthetic sensitivity, color theory etc

​NATA 2023 Detailed Exam Pattern

As per NATA 2023 Exam Pattern, certain assessment factors have been mentioned that will be used to asses the aptitude of candidates:

  • Diagramtic Reasoning- Diagrams and scenarios will be used to test logical reasoning ability of candidtaes.
  • Numerical Reasoning- Simple problems will be asked to test the mathematical ability of candidates.
  • Inductive Reasoning- The ability of candidates to observe patterns and analyse given data.
  • Situational Judgement- Problem Solving abilities of candidates will be tested.
  • Logical Reasoning- Candidate’s ability to recognise patterns, sequences or relationships between shapes and imagery will be tested.
  • Abstract Reasoning- General Knowledge and ability to test these in specific questions will be tested.

Candidates who wish to pursue B.Arch/B. Planning courses offered at various prestigious institutes can appear for NATA 2023. The question paper will contain three sets, i.e. Drawing, PCM and General Aptitude.

NATA Exam Day Instructions

NATA 2023 Exam Day Instructions

The examination hall will open only 30 minutes before the commencement of the test. Each candidate will be allocated a seat indicating their roll No. They are advised to take their seats after the opening of Examination Hall. If candidates do not report on time, they will miss some of the general instructions to be announced in the examination hall. No candidate will be allowed in examination hall after 15 minutes of commencement of test.

  • Carry your original admit card with you.
  • Also bring one passport size photograph, same as the one uploaded and a valid photo id proof with you.  
  • Candidates are advised to bring with them a black ball pen, pencil, eraser, color pencils, and cardboard or a clipboard on which nothing should be written.
  • Candidates are not allowed to carry anything except admit card, Ball pen or pencils, photo, etc.
  • No electronics items are allowed inside.
  • No candidate, without the special permission of the Centre-in-Charge or the supervisor concerned, will leave his/her seat or examination hall until the duration of exam is over.
  • Candidates have to hand over their answer sheet of drawing paper to the supervisor before leaving the hall.
  • Candidates are suggested to maintain silence during the examination.
  • If a candidate is found adopting unfair means, his/her candidature shall be canceled and he/she will be liable to be debarred from taking examination either permanently or for a period according to the nature of offence.

NATA Preparation Tips

Section-wise Preparation Tips for NATA 2023

NATA 2023 will basically be divided into two parts. Part A is a Drawing-based test that has to be done on an A4- size sheet. Whereas, Part B comprises Maths aptitude and analytical reasoning with objective type questions (MCQs) that have to be answered in online mode only. As there will be no negative marking in NATA 2023, candidates can attempt all the questions without any fear of marks deduction.

NATA 2023 Part A: Drawing

In this section, the number of questions had been increased in the previous year's exam pattern. Now, candidates have to attempt three drawing questions to be attempted in a duration of 2 hours 15 minutes. Therefore, Candidates will be judged on the following basis:

  • Drawing from day to day experiences

  • Understanding of scale and balance

  • Creating visual harmony using colours in a given proportion

  • Creating an interesting 2-D composition using given shapes and forms.

  • Combining and composing given 3-D elements to form a building and structural form

  • Sense of perspective drawing 

NATA 2023 Part B: Maths and General Aptitude

Maths: Aspirants are advised to practice maths through CBSE books. Maths is considered to be a scoring subject until and unless you've studied your CBSE maths book properly. Practice is the key to score well in Mathematics.

Aptitude: It is necessary for the candidates to keep their general knowledge updated. In order to score well in this section, you must know about topics such as Buildings in India and World, Speed, Distance and Time, Logical and Reasoning ability questions, Common Architectural Terminology, 2D and 3D objects and their plans and elevations, etc.
