PGD in Services Management: Syllabus and Course Description

The service sector encompasses a massive part of India’s economy, and has higher growth rate than the agriculture and manufacturing sectors. Services firms are people- oriented owing to the involvement of direct interaction with customers. Customers generally participate in the service process, often through direct and uncensored interaction with employees and facilities. The resulting variations in demands present a challenge to Operations Managers to effectively use the perishable service capacity. This happens because production and consumptions occurs simultaneously and inventory services often cannot keep pace. The course aims to train enrolled students with the concepts and tools to effectively manage a service operation.

Ques. Is it worth doing an MBA in HRM from Doon Business School, Dehradun?

● Top Answer By Tanuj Chandra on 10 Mar 23

Ans. When it comes to choosing a college for studying HR, it's important to weigh all your options carefully. While there may be more renowned colleges out there, if you don't have any other option and HR is your passion, then taking admission to this college might be the right choice for you. However, just attending classroom lectures is not enough. You need to be proactive and build a strong network in the HR community. You can achieve this by attending HR Conclaves, Conferences and interacting with professionals in the field. Additionally, try to do 2-3 internships with prestigious organizations, as this will provide you with hands-on experience and improve your chances of getting hired. Communication skills are also crucial in HR, so make sure to work on your verbal and non-verbal communication. Practice your speaking and presentation skills, and work on your body language to make a positive impression. With hard work and dedication, you can succeed in HR regardless of which college you choose.Read more

Ques. For MBA in HR, should one choose NMIMS Mumbai or XIMB?

● Top Answer By Samriddhi Sarkar on 28 May 21

Ans. Having friends in both institutions, I suggest you to go NMIMS Mumbai. XIMB HR has recently switched their name from XIMB to XaHR. This cost them a lot in terms of placements. All of the companies, instead of reaching out to XIMB are showing up at NMIMS Mumbai boosting their demand day by day.  If I were to compare both the colleges based on certain parameters, I would say: Batch: The batch size at NMIMS is 60 which are admitted on grounds of strict merit. On the other hand, XIMB takes in candidates on reservation grounds.  Location: If you have decided to reach Mumbai for your MBA, no doubt that it is indeed the best place. NMIMS provides better corporate interface and project opportunities.  Placements -  Categories MBA HR at NMIMS Mumbai MBA HR at XIMB Course Fee  20.84 lakh 18.50 lakh Course Duration 2 years 2 years Highest CTC 22 LPA 28 LPA Average CTC  15 LPA 12 LPA Recruiting Companies KPMG, EY, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, etc. Nestle, Berger, HSBC, American Express, etc. Some of my friends who were on the wait-list of XIMB decided to switch to NMIMS eventually. And some of them withdrew their names from the wait-list just to reach other colleges (these were in the lower-tier) but not XIMB. Even the students who are already studying at XIMB advise others to not reach there.Read more
