Campus Life:

College life is very good and probably one of the best in India. The cultural fest is known as Culfest and the technical fest is known as OJASS. The sports fest is called URJA. We have all types of clubs, you name it and it's ready and all along the year there is some event going on from every club and students here win cash prizes. The clubs even go to IITs for various events and win. Talking About the classroom, they are the best in India, even better than most IITs. They are at the level of MIT and STANFORD University and hostels are also better than many IITs.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester. Placement percentage was 98.8% and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering was 100%. The average package of our college is 17.2 LPA and 27.32 LPA for CSE. The highest package was 83LPA. I will try to get placed in one of the best companies coming into our college.

The AAROHI is the cultural fest of VNIT, Nagpur, and is the largest cultural association in CENTRAL INDIA. AXIS is the technical fest of VNIT Nagpur and also is the largest one conducted in CENTRAL INDIA. They are carried out mostly in October. The Library consists of all kinds of books and materials, and is one of the bests in academia plus they are made available at our convenience.. The classrooms consist of a smart board, projectors and a screen for the virtual learning experience. The sports facilities are awesome too, we have a big cricket, football ground, and indoor sports complex for badminton and table tennis. The clubs and societies are very active. HallaBOL, Octaves, team velocity, and IV labs are some of the clubs in the institute.

Course Curriculum Overview:

This was the best course I was getting at my rank, and also, the materials are the future, so ultimately, I chose this stream. The faculties are decent, almost everyone is a PhD professor. The teaching methods are also decent, except in a few of the subjects. Each semester is 4 months long in time, and at the end of 2nd month of the semester, we have a mid-semester exam. The difficulty of exams was average to tough. One needs to study regularly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is outdated, and the faculty is just above average for the first year. Most students usually prepare for exams using online resources and books. Also, MME is quite rewarding compared to civil or mining. All teachers are Ph.D. holders with 6+ years of experience. The exams are relatively tougher as the semester moves forward.

Campus Life:

The annual cultural festival is Aarohi and the tech fest is Axis. Both are the largest central Indian fests of their type respectively. A lot of colleges from around the country visit our college for the fests. There's a huge football and cricket ground available, and about 27 different clubs and societies for all students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have an option of choosing either metallurgy or civil but I chose the metallurgy branch BCz pkg is more in comparison with civil and this branch is easy to moderate in comparison with civil. Faculty members are very helpful and cooperative, they take quick action if you need help and the student ratio is about 10:1. Faculty members are very much qualified and knowledgeable but have to study by themselves for the sem The sem exam is like the sem starts after 1 and half months Ca1 exam will be held for 15 marks and after 1,2 week mid-term will be started with 25 marks after 1-month end term will hold for 60 marks .ca and mid is quite easy and end sem is moderate

Course Curriculum Overview:

I've chosen this course as the initial start of my career as Sundar Pichai has started by pursuing B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Faculty are friendly and talk about life lessons apart from teaching as they are well qualified in their particular subjects. Professors hold their Ph. D.s in particular fields from premier institutes like IIT/NIT.NIT Professors are known for their POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH, Teaching Experience, Research Publications, and Professional Experience. In a semester Two exams are taken (MID TERM and END TERM). The Exams are difficult as compared to normal engineering colleges or private colleges. One has to study well to get good marks and pass the exams.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course by mistake because I dont know about it that much. Faculty members are good with students, they give their full concern in all fields. The student ratio is 7:10 maybe but not sure. Faculties are highly qualified and have high level knowledge and the way by which they treat and share knowledge with students is also good. Our terms are sometimes easy and sometimes hard to pass and mid-term is about 1:15 hrs and end terms is about 2:30 hrs.

Campus Life:

Life on campus is a good healthy and fresh environment. Infrastructure and buildings are also good and hard. No annual fest here only one fest is celebrated here which is the tech fest known as tech-vagnza. Books availability from the library process is ok. Sports and extracurricular activities are also done here, students have many opportunities to achieve success in any field. IIECD is a club here for students and is run by students also.

Ques. What is the current placement scenario for metallurgy and materials engineering at NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Suresh Mishra on 30 Aug 21

Ans. One of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy and here are some facts about the institute I got to know from her. As you have not mentioned any specifications, let me just describe the placement scenario of Metallurgy at NIT Trichy. The placements generally vary from year to year.  Out of a batch of around 60 students, people looking for placements every year is around 40. The rest of the people either go for higher studies or have some other plans.  Most of the people get into material science-related fields at very good universities. Out of the 40 students, around 30 usually get placed.  Companies that usually open for metallurgy graduates include, Core Metal (steel/ aluminium), Automobile, Analytics, Software and others. There are a few companies that are regular visitors. The rest depends on the market and your training placement coordinator. Placements for metallurgy students are lesser than the other departments. Categories Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at NIT Trichy Course Fee 5.65 lakh Highest CTC 22 LPA Average CTC 10-12 LPA Recruiting Companies BPCL, L&T, Tata Steel, Reliance, etc. So, you need to act upon those selected shots you get. Ques. How is metallurgical and materials engineering at IIT Ropar?

● Top Answer By Jolly Roy Chatterjee on 07 Sept 21

Ans. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at IIT Ropar offers a B.Tech program, alongside a Ph.D. program. Since the establishment of the branch, it has involved a wide range of study areas, in India as well as other foreign countries. Mainly, it has shown a great scope of exposure relentlessly in these few years. Sir P.K Raina, considered one of the main heads of the institute, is a Ph.D. holder from IIT Kanpur and knows how to incentivize new talents. At present, he is known as the Students Associate Dean of IIT Ropar.  In terms of infrastructure, there is a separate building in the permanent campus, usually called the Satish Dhawan for SMMEE. There is a provision of only one lab located in the Transit campus - 1 of XRD. Other similar labs are located elsewhere, RMML (Ropar Machines of Materials Laboratory ) Material Testing Lab In case you are about to pursue your higher studies, then going for IIT Ropar is not at all a bad elective. Read more

Ques. How is NIT Surathkal metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Debarati Nag on 13 Apr 21

Ans. Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal is a very good branch as there is a rising requirement of materials science and engineering and their number of students taking admission in this branch is comparatively less than other branches like Civil, Mechanical or Electrical so you can expect less competition in this field. Categories Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal Course Fee 1.85 lakh Placement Percentage 54% Average CTC 7 LPA The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.  The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.Read more

Ques. Should I go for civil engineering or metallurgy and material science engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 31 Aug 21

Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more

Ques. How is NIT Calicut for a B.Tech in material science?

● Top Answer By Nandini Mishra on 26 Aug 21

Ans. B.Tech in material science in NIT CALICUT is a slightly underrated course as it is newly introduced. NIT Calicut also has an M.Tech course for material science.  The material science branch in NIT Calicut is a very promising branch despite being an underrated and newly introduced branch and has become an important part of NIT Calicut. This branch also has a dedicated department for nanotechnology. Recently they have made their college proud by preparing and distributing hand sanitizer in the entire campus and also in local sections of society to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.  The placements of this department are not as great as in the computer science department as it is a newly introduced branch.  This is a research-oriented branch with a strong alumni network. Material Science is definitely a promising field and offers a lot of opportunities in higher studies. If you love nanoscience then you should go for this course. Read more

Ques. Is it better to take metallurgy in NIT Rourkela or electrical in NIT Silchar?

● Top Answer By Rituparna Hazra on 05 Jul 21

Ans. You need to compare the two universities to make a decision between the two. Having friends studying in both the institutes, I might be able to help you with the question. Metallurgy at NIT Rourkela: Campus-wise, the college has a very large campus. But, if you are planning to pursue metallurgy, let me tell you that you will have lesser job opportunities in both the public and private sectors in India. You might have to shift to another country to get a well-paying job and earn decently in your field of study. Electrical at NIT Silchar: There are also some really good facilities here including the largest digital library in South Asia. The campus is really good too. The placement records are amazing. Moreover, electrical is an evergreen branch with decent scope in the public sector. This would surely make a good alternative. Categories Metallurgy in NIT Rourkela Electrical at NIT Silchar Course Fee 6.40 lakh 5.42 lakh Highest CTC 10-12 LPA 15-18 LPA Average CTC 6-7 LPA 6 LPA Recruiting Companies Tata, Jindal, Hindalco, Vedanta, etc. Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Arcesium, Mu Sigma, etc. Finally, it all boils down to your interests and which field you prefer more. Both fields come with their own pros and cons.Read more

Ques. Should I go for Metallurgy at NIT Raipur? How are the placements in the branch there?

● Top Answer By Damini Jain on 31 Mar 21

Ans. NIT Raipur is a very good college and currently ranks at 67 in NIRF ranking among the top engineering institutes in India. And if you are a good student then maybe you can even get the CS branch as well. Placements Various companies visited on campus for placements. In addition, the faculty will also train you to clear the aptitude test and focus mainly on the orientation of the students. The highest salary package offered was 7 lakh per year for metallurgy in software development, while the lowest was 4 lakh. So, on average, it went from 5 to 6 LPA, which is considered a decent package here in Raipur. Infosys, Wipro, and Trendence are the top recruiting companies. A total of 5 to 6 out of 50 students are placed in reputed companies of India. However, if you want to pursue M.Tech in a good college, study well and sit for GATE instead. Ques. Which is better, VNIT for metallurgy or NIT Raipur for IT?

● Top Answer By Kaushal Madnani on 15 Apr 21

Ans. One of my acquaintances who has graduated from VNIT has asked me to choose my institute by keeping the following points in mind. VNIT for metallurgy would be a suitable choice for you if you don’t have a particular liking. Apart from that, the metallurgy of VNIT holds an enviable position in India. The syllabus for metallurgy is vast and involves a lot of memorization. If you want CS and unfortunately end up not getting it, the next logical step would be to choose IT. The syllabus of IT and CS are almost the same. In the big picture, it will have little importance if you complete your B.Tech from VNIT or NIT Raipur. You will have a degree and you will not regret the decision you made. IT has a lot of scopes. Later down the road, if you want to continue with your higher studies, you will be capable of switching to almost any department pertaining to computers. IT from NIT Raipur is an excellent choice. The scope in the metallurgy sector is limited nowadays. It is obviously your call, though. There is vast scope in IT like research, job, etc.Read more

Ques. What is better, metallurgical in the old IIT (Kharagpur/Roorkee) or electrical in the new IIT (Ganghinagar/Mandi)?

● Top Answer By Aditi Goswami on 14 Apr 23

Ans. Both metallurgical and electrical engineering are highly respected fields of study. The choice between them will depend on your personal interests and career goals. The old IITS like Kharagpur and Roorkee has a long-standing legacy in metallurgical engineering, whereas the new IITs like Gandhinagar and Mandi have strong electrical engineering programs.  However, personally, I feel metallurgy in Kharagpur or Roorkee is a better option than joining EE in newer IITs. Here are a few points that support my stance  The exposure, culture, opportunities, peer groups, and overall campus life you will experience at IIT Roorkee cannot be compared to that of newer IITs which are still growing and have a long way to go. The branch does matter to a certain extent, but if you look at the bigger picture, the Institute’s brand and opportunities overshadow the drawbacks of a less preferred branch. Those who are desperate can always opt for a branch change at the end of the first semester. Ultimately, the choice between metallurgical engineering at an old IIT and electrical engineering at a new IIT will come down to your personal inclinations and career goals.Read more
