Gauhati Commerce College M.Com Course Details
The 2-year full-time program is a combination of core courses, specialisation courses as well as elective courses spread across semesters. The number of courses and their nature per semester are as follows.
- 1st semester : There are 5 courses that are common to all.
- 2nd semester : There are 3 courses common for all. Also, there are two specialisations - A and B. Each student can either be part of A or B. Each of these specialisations have two additional courses each.
- 3rd semester : There are 2 compulsory courses common for all. The two specialisations have two additional courses each. There is also a compulsory research project/ dissertation that has to be done.
- 4th semester : There are two courses common to all.
- Electives : There are a total of 8 elective courses available, out of which 3 has to be selected. The students are allowed to complete the elective courses at their own pace. The total number of credits obtained after completing these elective courses should be at least 20% of the total credit (i.e., 24 credits / 120 credits ).
- Each paper carrying 100 marks is equivalent to 6 credits)
Program Structure
The M.Com program’s evaluation is done on the basis of the internals, the final examination and the dissertation.
The Internal marks (20% of the total marks of the paper) are allotted on the basis of two elements :
- Sessional examination 1 & 2 - These are one-hour examinations conducted by the concerned teacher. There are no repeat examinations for those who miss or fail in these. However, if a candidate wasn’t able to attend due to genuine medical reasons, the concerned teacher can allow a separate examination to be conducted for that candidate.
- Home assignments, seminars, group discussions, or related work depending on the decision of the teacher concerned.
The Examination and Evaluation policies of the college is as follows :
- The pass mark for each paper is 30% (including both the internal and external marks)
- A student who fails in a paper should repeat the paper by attending all the classes and appearing for the internals along with the externals. The student should successfully complete the paper within a duration of 5 years from the time of admission.
- The student with the lowest grade will be given an option to repeat the paper following the guidelines mentioned above.
- A student who fails in the elective papers will be allowed to replace them with electives having the same number of credits.
