About GCE

Government College of Engineering, Salem was established in the year 1966 with the aim of imparting technical education among students. The college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The college offers Engineering programmes at Bachelor, Masters and Research

In1966-1967, the college started courses in Civil, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering courses as its first batch in the institution
The institute was affiliated to the University of Madras until 2001
In 1973-74, the Metallurgical engineering branch was started
In 1985-86 Electronics and Communication branch was started In 2001 Computer Science Engineering course was started
The college is a Regional Center for Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S., programs
The institute was affiliated to the University of Madras until 2001
The college has been promoted as one of the Autonomous Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu
All the Engineering departments are equipped with technologies aided by funding from World Bank through Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP)

State Govt .Scholarship for Backward / Most Backward / Denotified Communities - Rs. 6825/- (Half Fee) and Rs 5425/- (Full Fee) per year for BC/ MBC/DNC Students whose parents income does not exceed 1lakh per annum
Govt. of India Post Matric Scholarship- Rs. 8750/- per year for day scholars whose parents income does not exceed 2 lakh per annum
and Rs. 17800/- for hostellers State Govt .Award for Bright Students - Rs. 1500/- annum for SC/ST students who secure highest marks in H.Sc.
Award of Prize Money to SC/ST Students who (including converts) - Rs.5000/- annum who secure 60% and above
