Claire Smith Review at Queen's University, Kingston | Collegedunia

Queen's University: Canada's Ivy League Equivalent

Claire Smith
7.8 /10

Because of the ability to take courses in multiple disciplines (a Bachelor of Arts within the Concurrent Education program has allowed me to pursue a drama major, English minor, and Certificate in Business prior to my final year in primary junior teaching).

Course Curriculum :

It is in depth and reasonable, although slightly liberal. The best courses are ones that have curriculum focusing on current events and relevancy to real life (e.g. Arts Administration, Organizational Behaviour).

Exams :

I did a personal statement essay for Queen's University specifically. I did not take any standardized tests.

Placement :

For the commerce program, job placements are almost guaranteed. For other programs, like my own, there are career advising services that can be employed but their success depends on the individual.

Internship :

Queen's offer internships, but it's not very often taken advantage of. Commerce is one of the faculties that does not do co-op or internships, too, which is surprising. Engineering internships are the most common.

Events :

Many. Exams are the end of each term.

Fees :

Quarterly tuition fees and optional residence/meal plan charges paid to the school, plus general living expenses like rent and food to various other sources.

Scholarship :

I got a few thousand dollars in scholarship money granted to me upon admittance in the first year based on my grade average from high school. I have not received any financial aid otherwise.

Examination Structure :

Exams are the end of each term.

Faculty :

I love Queen's University and I am proud to be a student here. It is a very spirited community and the town of Kingston is great for people of my demographic because of it easy to get around and enjoy the local area, mostly populated by other students.

Hostel :

I lived in residence in the first year, which was enjoyable and well organized. Then, in my upper years, I moved into the "student ghetto" for the remainder of my degree, which has been fun but extremely overpriced based on inflated demand by students in Kingston. There is a big discrepancy in home and landlord quality, too.
