- The Entomology Bachelor program at UGA is a thorough, science-based, applied biology curriculum which provides a broad background of the study of insects: physiology; modern and classical methodologies of insect study; biological controls including population growth and pest effects on agricultural production and crops; species interactions and insect behavior; and ecosystems and ecology. Students learn to identify multiple insects and other arthropods in order to manage them efficiently.
- The degree provides an excellent background for advanced studies in many other fields, including environmental health, industrial hygiene, toxicology, public health, epidemiology, ecology, and environmental engineering, and will satisfy entrance requirements for professional degree programs such as medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, optometry, and pharmacy.
- Career opportunities are available in the private sector (e.g. agricultural industries, production, chemical companies, urban pest control), public sector (e.g. quarantine facilities, federal research laboratories, state departments of agriculture, regulatory agencies, departments of health), and non-governmental organizations (e.g. museums and botanical gardens).
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
At UGA, the only minimum score requirements in place are the ones required by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia for admission to its research universities: that is, an SAT-CR of 430 and SAT-M of 400, or subscores of 17 on both the English and Math sections of the ACT.
Persons seeking admission to the University of Georgia Graduate School must hold a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association or its international equivalent prior to the expected semester of matriculation with the exception of University of Georgia undergraduate students enrolled in linked bachelors/masters programs. Applicants should be ranked in the upper half of their undergraduate class. Applicants are responsible for submitting application materials required for admission. These items include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Application for admission
- Application-processing fee
- Transcripts
- Entrance test scores
- Letters of recommendation
