Specifically, the goals of the program are to:
- Demonstrate entry-level competence and contemporary skill in the comprehensive examination, diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of patients with injuries and illnesses.
- Demonstrate entry-level competence and critical thinking skills in applying the standards of evidence-based practice and patient-centered care to athletic training. Adhere to and promote best practices in the profession.
- Value and adhere to ethical and professional conduct by articulating and abiding by professional standards of practice, code of ethics, and state and federal laws regarding patient care.
- Understand how athletic training skills are practiced in a variety of settings with diverse patient populations as a member of a health care team, demonstrating ability to function as a professional in those settings.
- Demonstrate and utilize effective and professional oral and written communication and documentation when communicating with patients, families, supervisors, other health care providers and involved stakeholders in the sports medicine team.
- The primary objective of the athletic training program is to prepare undergraduate students as preeminent professionals in the field of athletic training and allied health care by teaching the didactic knowledge and clinical decision making needed to function as an entry-level athletic trainer. We prepare athletic training students to pass the national Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Since implementing the program in 1998, UGA has a very high success passing rate on passing this examination.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
At UGA, the only minimum score requirements in place are the ones required by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia for admission to its research universities: that is, an SAT-CR of 430 and SAT-M of 400, or subscores of 17 on both the English and Math sections of the ACT.
Persons seeking admission to the University of Georgia Graduate School must hold a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association or its international equivalent prior to the expected semester of matriculation with the exception of University of Georgia undergraduate students enrolled in linked bachelors/masters programs. Applicants should be ranked in the upper half of their undergraduate class. Applicants are responsible for submitting application materials required for admission.
