- The philosophy program covers texts and methods of inquiry developed by significant figures in the history of thought – from ancient philosophers such as Plato and Socrates to early modern thinkers such as Thomas Hobbes and Immanuel Kant to recent figures such as Thomas Kuhn and Martin Luther King.
- Foundation courses focus on philosophical problems related to topics such as personal identity, human consciousness, moral dilemmas, religious belief, semantics, and logical reasoning.
- During the junior and senior years, students get to choose from advanced courses available including political and social philosophy, the philosophy of mind, biomedical ethics, ethical theory, and metaphysics.
- To complete the philosophy major, students must earn at least 36 credits in philosophy. Students will work with their academic advisor to choose courses related to their interests and career goals.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have a minimum of 120 credits and at least 90 credits in the liberal arts and sciences
- Students must achieve and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
- The students should have completed the General Education Program at the University at Albany
- Students whose official language is not English are required to submit IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE scores.
Indian Students Eligibility:
- Students should submit required official and complete individual mark skeets for each examination attempt, including subsidiary exams.
- Photocopies of student's mark sheets are accepted only when they are attested by the University Registrar or Controller of Examinations and placed in a sealed, stamped envelope that is sent directly to the Graduate School.
Scores Required
- The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or GMAT results are not required.

International applicants are required to apply for an F-1 or J-1 student Visa. As per the application process of universities in the USA, a student needs to have the following basic documents to procure a US student visa.
- A valid passport that has a validity of a minimum of 6 months after students stay in the country
- Form DS-160 (Nonimmigrant visa application confirmation page)
- Application fee payment Receipt
- Form I-20 if applying for a Student visa (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status)
- Receipt Number on Petition filed by U.S employer (I-129 form) if applying for a work visa.
- Original Marks Sheet or Provisional certificates.
- Evidence of sufficient funds in the bank account to ensure you can survive the duration of course in the USA.
- Score sheet of standardized exams like IELTS (6.0 or equivalent), TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, etc.
- Proof that the candidate will leave the country once the program is completed. A return air ticket to the home country can be evidence of this kind.
