Teachers needs to be well-versed in their subject to give students the best education possible. The English and education major at Wingate University allows you to do just that. Our degree program lets you achieve the ideal balance between being an expert in your subject and being a great teacher.

You split your time between the English and education courses outlined in the academic catalog. Throughout your four years, you take courses that range from intensive studies of literary theory to surveys of different literary genres. You also get the foundation you need to succeed as the leader of your own classroom, with courses in educational psychology and a study of the teaching profession. And just to make sure you’re at the head of the class, you take courses on how to teach literature to secondary students. Sounds like a well-rounded education, right?

Each English and education major must complete student teaching. You learn instructional preparation, presentation, and classroom organization and management. You’ll also complete a content area project. That means when you get ready to go back to school as a teacher, you do it prepared and with a résumé already loaded with experience.
