Want to?make helping others a career, but don?t know how? We can get you started. Our human services major introduces you to the many rewarding jobs in public outreach. Because our faculty marries psychology and sociology, you develop many interpersonal skills, including communication, leadership and cross-cultural understanding. These skills transfer readily to the workforce for jobs in public relations, rehabilitation or non-profit organizations. You could also pursue graduate studies in counseling, social work, criminology, ministry or psychology.

Small Classes = Big Education

Our class sizes are small, so you get an intimate educational experience while honing your career skills. When you major in human services, you master the planning, organization, management and analytical skills that prepare you for a wide variety of jobs.

And we?re not all about lectures here. At Wingate University, you have many opportunities to work alongside your professors on experiments and research. Recent student projects include studies on texting while driving and violence in the media.

Practical Experience

We want you to be prepared with real-life experience when you enter the job market. That?s why every student majoring in human services participates in a practicum. Your 100-hour practicum is an?internship?giving you work experience in:

  • Autism support services
  • Community shelters
  • Domestic violence facilities
  • School counseling centers

Wondering how you can fit 100 hours into your busy class schedule? Don?t worry. We know you carry a heavy load, so we?re flexible. Fulfill your internship hours during any semester, including summers.
