?The SVSU Biology Department offers a wide variety of courses providing students the ability to emphasize their area of interest and to prepare themselves for jobs in the biological sciences or for further study in graduate or professional schools (e.g. medical, dental, veterinary). Classes are conducted in modern laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment. The University's 782-acre campus contains an ecological research area where a variety of biological fieldwork is performed. Close proximity to Saginaw Bay provides undergraduate students opportunities for environmental and aquatic field trips and research experiences.

The core focus of the SVSU Biology Department is to provide exceptional course and research experiences. The department offers an array of courses relevant to all students interested in seeking jobs and advanced degrees in the biological sciences. A wide variety of upper division biology courses is taught by full time faculty. The department provides a?Suggested Course Map?to help guide course selection for all students majoring in Biology.?

Class sizes are small and provide one-on-one interactions that allow our students to get to know their instructors and allow instructors to address individual student needs. Academic Requirements:

  • Submit official transcripts or high school transcript evaluation 
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES or AICE member agency
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent is required on a scale of 4
  • Submitting score of ACT/SAT is optional
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

  • IELTS: minimum score of 5.5
  • PTE: minimum score of 45
  • Duolingo: minimum score of 85
  • SAT: overall score of minimum 900
