Washburn University Campus and Residence

The college only has one main campus located in Topeka, State of Kansas. There is also a tech campus in Huntoon that offers industry-standard programs.

The campus provided housing is divided into two – Residential Hall Options, and Greek housing options. All the residential halls are present inside the premises of the university itself, whereas only one of the Greek houses is part of the campus.

Residential halls are as follows:

  • Lincoln Hall: Suites available with single and double bedroom arrangements
  • Living Learning Center: Housing over 400 students, this hall is divided into eight wings which come with a study room and kitchen each.
  • Kuehne & West Halls: Provides a suite-style living, and each suite comes with a patio of its own.
  • Washburn Village: 4 separate 3-story buildings that are home to around 192 students. Each apartment has a living room along with a private kitchen.

Financial Aids and Scholarships by Washburn University

Only highly-qualified international students can secure a scholarship at Washburn. These are awarded once per year after completion of one academic year at the university. These scholarships for international students in US usually vary from 500 USD to 5000 USD.

There are also some sports-based scholarships, and even specialized ones. The students can apply for these scholarships by filing a separate application and by their particular deadlines. Some of these scholarships are as follows:

  • Academic Scholarships: These range from 500 USD to 5,000 USD and are admission based, i.e., students graduating from high school in with an ACT score of 21 or higher and a GPA of 3.0 or higher can apply for this scholarship.
  • Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship: Students that have a relative that graduated from Washburn are eligible for this scholarship. Students are mostly chosen based on their financial needs.
  • Brunts Honours Scholarship: This award ranges from $500 to $1000 and is accustomed for freshmen enrolled in the University Honours Program
  • Athletics Scholarships: This scholarship is eligible for 14 different sports and is awarded by coaches of respective programs - football, basketball, baseball, track, cross country, tennis and golf (in men’s sports) and volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball, track, cross country and tennis (in women’s sports).

Students that do not qualify for scholarships offered by Washburn, can also opt for external scholarships.

Work-study

Domestic students can apply for the federal work-study program, while for non-domestic students there are departmental positions (these are also available for domestic students). All the positions are paid bi-weekly, and the money earned can be used to cover up for any kind of expenses.

Once an international student receives a position, they will need to contact the International Programs Office to receive a work permit and a letter to take to the Social Security Administration to request a social security number.
