- The NSU counseling program is dedicated to positively influencing the regional and global impact of the counseling field through professional stewardship. This commitment will be achieved through the recruitment and retention of diverse professionals who demonstrate a willingness to engage in personal struggle, tolerate ambiguity, seek feedback, and grow alongside all counselors-in-training (CITs) and viewpoints.
- Throughout the course of the program CITs will be challenged to apply their knowledge, skills, and dispositions to promote social justice and ethical conduct, thus enhancing self-actualization and sound mental health in self, clients, and systems they encounter.
- The culmination of the program will result in counselors focused on self and client betterment who emerge as dedicated change agents, positively impacting the greater society in which they will serve.
- The program offers a 60-hour Master of Science in Counseling with three emphases:-Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Addiction Counseling, and School Counseling
- It familiarizes students with the use of scientific thought and principles as applied to the practice of professional counseling
- NSU’s Master of Science in Counseling program prepares students for a counseling career or for further advanced study

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- An overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 (based on a 4.0 scale) or a grade point average of 2.75 (based on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 undergraduate semester hours attempted required
- Scores no more than five years old on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE general aptitude test) (A recommended score of 288 is necessary to receive points toward admission in the category
- A person with an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may be admitted conditionally for graduate studies with a 2.3 overall grade point average in all undergraduate coursework attempted or a 2.5 in the last 60 semester hours attempted based on a 4.0 scale.
