  • Civil engineering applies knowledge of mathematics and the physical sciences to provide structures, improve and protect the environment, and provide facilities for community living, industry, and transportation.
  • The mission of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is to provide educational opportunities for students seeking to enter the civil engineering profession so that they can achieve competence in the field while recognizing their social responsibilities. The program provides a strong foundation in the areas of mathematics, basic and engineering sciences, and the humanities and social sciences. It encourages further self development and life-long intellectual achievement. The program seeks to build student skills in written and oral communication, and a sense of poise and professionalism.
  • Analysis and design courses in the fields of environmental, geotechnical, hydraulic, structural, and water resources engineering are offered in addition to preparatory courses in sciences and basic mechanics. A broad base of theory is provided, along with its application to current practices of the profession.
  • Seattle’s civil engineering program strives to provide a personalized, world-class educational experience that enables their graduates to:

    • Professional: Attain a position in civil engineering or a related field.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate applicants should have the equivalent of a U.S. grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Provide official, certified English language translations of all transcripts from each educational institution attended.
    • Official external mark sheets should be submitted as part of the evaluation process in the educational system attended. Transcripts must have the official seal or stamp from the issuing institution.
    • Students who have completed the Ordinary and/or Advanced Levels, or the International Baccalaureate must have the results sent directly from the testing agency.
  • Applicants whose native language is other than English must demonstrate English proficiency regardless of the length of residency in the U.S., their citizenship, or their immigration status.
  • Seattle University does not require the ACT or SAT of international freshman applicants. However, these scores do enhance an application, and sufficiently high critical reading and writing scores will be accepted in lieu of the TOEFL to demonstrate English proficiency.
