Educational Leadership and Policy Studies
The mission of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is to prepare highly effective professional leaders who will develop productive environments for academic excellence and equity. EKU Online offers MAEd. in Instructional Leadership designed to prepare teachers to be essential contributors to the shared leadership in the school. Teacher leadership is a ground level collaborative to strengthen teacher performance. The department also oversees coursework preparing students for the Kentucky Teacher Leader Endorsement and the Kentucky School Safety Endorsement.
This degree program provides two options:

The Teacher Leadership for Student Learning option will provide the proficiency knowledge base for teachers who may later choose to pursue a school principal master’s degree. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible to apply for the Kentucky Teacher Leader Endorsement.

The Safety and Facilities Management in Educational Settings option will provide teachers with the MAEd. and an avenue for earning Kentucky’s School Safety Endorsement. Upon completion of the program, candidates will also be eligible to apply for the Kentucky Teacher Leader Endorsement.
Endorsements
Endorsement preparation programs do not lead to a degree or to EKU-awarded recognition. In some cases, the endorsement may be earned as part of a degree program.
Teacher Leader Endorsement
Teacher Leader Endorsement preparation trains teachers to be essential contributors to the shared leadership in schools and other learning environments. Teacher leadership is a ground level collaborative to strengthen professional practice.
School Safety Endorsement
The Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) and the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) worked together to develop the Kentucky School Safety Endorsement to prepare certified P-12 educators, teachers and administrators, to promote and maintain a positive, safe and healthy school culture that is conducive to high academic achievement.
