Our choral piano degree program encompasses a broad liberal arts foundation. In addition to music performance and theory, you will learn ways of mastering teaching strategies for advanced vocal, instrumental and choral techniques. This includes methods of reviewing diction and immersion practices, using technology and assessment strategies, educational psychology followed by completing a full-time student teaching component in your final semester. Learning extends beyond the classroom as a music education major by offering you the opportunity to participate in the annual University Theatre Series, a series of five major productions hosted by GCU's music and theatre departments.
Curriculum in the BA in music education program aligns with the standards of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC), preparing you for K-12 music teacher licensure. Programs leading to teacher certification may require practicum hours, state exams, student teaching and an institutional recommendation from GCU.
An audition is required for admission into the piano education program.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
- Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
- Applicants with GPA less than 3.0 need to submit scores of SAT/ACT
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
