The instrument education degree program encompasses teaching, music theory, history and performance with a focus on collaboration and composition. Contemporary music education, teaching strategies, training K-12 students in instrumental or vocal performance and your own music practicum experiences are merged in the program so you learn to meet the varying needs of elementary and secondary education schools. In this program, courses in teaching, history and music theory logically progress toward more advanced concepts to provide you with an advanced study of instrumental techniques for strings, brass, percussion, clarinet, saxophone, flute and more. Study classroom technology and assessment strategies before applying them during your required student teaching component.
Curriculum in the BA in music education program aligns with the standards of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC), preparing you for K-12 music teacher licensure. Programs leading to teacher certification may require practicum hours, state exams, student teaching and an institutional recommendation from GCU. Please note that an audition is required for acceptance into this music education degree program.

Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
- Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
- Applicants with GPA less than 3.0 need to submit scores of SAT/ACT
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
