Both options are campus based, two year programs requiring a previous bachelor?s degree and you can enter in Fall term.? They require a minimum of 45 credits and a professional portfolio to complete.? Once you have chosen the best option for you, please navigate with your advisor through the determination of what endorsements, authorizations, and/or licensing requirements you will obtain once you complete your program.

Our program is designed to train and prepare teachers to recognize, and appropriate teaching strategies to respond to, the special education needs of children from birth to age 8.

The EI/SE (Early Intervention/Special Education) tracks incorporate standards based on developmentally appropriate practices (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and recommended practices (Council for Exceptional Children ? Divison for Early Childhood). Professional practices guide the WOU EI/SE students in their acquisition of knowledge and skills in following key areas of direct services:

  • Assessment
  • Child-focused practices
  • Family-based practices
  • Interdisciplinary models
  • Technology application
  • Application of recommended practices of program assessment and improvement

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed a bachelors degree equivalent of USA’s four year bachelors degree
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent in last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
  • Applicants with GPA lower than 3.0 need to submit official test scores of GRE (147 in verbal, 148 in quantitative and 3.5 in analytical writing) or MAT (395 or higher)
  • Submit your current resume
  • Submit a personal statement describing your experience working with individuals with disabilities, your career goals and explain how a Master’s Degree in Special Education will help you accomplish these goals, the qualities that make you a good match for this specific program as well as your plan for being successful within the program
  • Submit two letters of recommendation describing qualities that make you successful for working with youth
  • Submit Official English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Proficiency:

  • TOEFL: minimum 79 in iBT; 550 in PBT
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0
  • Duolingo: minimum 100
