Although it is housed in the Division of Deaf Studies and Professional Studies (DSPS), this exciting opportunity allows you to work at the intersection of DSPS and the Division of Teacher Education (DTE), as it also earns you an initial Oregon Teacher License.

The coursework allows you to develop and incorporate foundational knowledge and theories of educational thought, including various epistemological frameworks, into your teaching practice. You will attain the ability to analyze various linguistic, social and cultural perspectives in Deaf Education as well as learn how they contribute to the cognitive and academic development of students.? As a leader in your field, this course will prepare you to collaborate effectively in various educational settings with other Deaf and Hard of Hearing educational service professionals.

  • The degree takes 2 years (68 credits) to complete and culminates in a Research Project.
  • You can begin the program in the Fall of each year, with courses offered on campus, online or as a hybrid.
  • Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission requires certain tests in order to be eligible for an Oregon Teaching License.?

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed a bachelors degree equivalent of USA’s four year bachelors degree
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent in last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
  • Applicants with GPA lower than 3.0 need to submit official test scores of GRE (147 in verbal, 148 in quantitative and 3.5 in analytical writing) or MAT (395 or higher)
  • Submit your current resume
  • Submit a writing sample of self recommendation to the program
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from previous employers/colleagues
  • Submit Official English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Proficiency:

  • TOEFL: minimum 79 in iBT; 550 in PBT
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0
  • Duolingo: minimum 100
