Students in the major, can select either the equine science option, for those who have a primary interest in horse production; or the equine management option, for students interested in the business aspect of the horse industry.

What you'll study

In the Equine Sciences and Management program, you will experience a curriculum that emphasizes basic science and business concepts and that application to equine production and management.  In addition, you can explore unique internship opportunities that help prepare for careers in equine industry - as well as become an active participant.  All students are required to take 25 credits in the major which provides a strong background in equine science, management, and business.  You may then select courses in one of four emphasis areas:

  • Equine Science
  • Business
  • Community Leadership and Development
  • Forages/Pastures

Students in equine science and management considering a career in veterinary medicine or graduate research can meet those goals in the degree program as well.  Interested students need to consult with an advisor to ensure all specific academic requirements are met.
