Students will gain an awareness and understanding of financial theories, responsibilities and practices as applied to decision-making to acquire and manage real and financial assets for the purpose of creating and maintaining economic (market) value. The finance major includes a broad introduction to business fundamentals, including courses in ethics, communication and leadership.
Finance is the study and practice of decision-making to acquire and manage real and financial assets for the purpose of creating and maintaining economic (market) value. Corporate finance explores how to value the assets a firm acquires, how to raise the necessary funds to purchase and how to manage the acquired assets to maximize the value of the firm. The investment courses examine how to select and value stocks and other financial securities, the theory and practice of portfolio management and the functioning of capital markets. The insurance course examines property, liability, marine and health contracts including both personal and commercial lines.

The finance major includes a broad introduction to business fundamentals, including courses in ethics, communication and leadership. Students majoring in finance will be prepared for career opportunities in corporate financial management, investment analysis and management, and international financial management. The finance major is also an excellent preparation for students planning to enter graduate programs or seeking a professional degree in law, accounting, or other professional programs.

Academic Requirements:
