History is a core around which liberal education can be structured. The study of history lays a foundation upon which one can develop a cultural, social, and intellectual life that enriches an understanding of the wider world.
Majoring in history is an excellent way to move into specialized study in such areas as teaching, library and information science, foreign service, medicine, law, and business. Those who plan to pursue a career as professional historians will want to continue their education and obtain the MA and PhD degrees. The Department of History of UH Manoa offers a full range of courses in American, Asian, European, Pacific, and world history.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
- Applicants must submit high school diploma
- Applicants must have minimum GPA 3.0 or equivalent
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 100 in ibt; 600 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 5.5
- PTE: minimum 68
- Duolingo: minimum 125
