The interdisciplinary major in Middle Eastern Studies includes four required courses (in art, comparative literature, religion, and a seminar course); intermediate-level proficiency in a language (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish); and six additional courses selected from a variety of fields. All majors are required to complete a solid, intellectually rigorous research project. We also offer a variety of options for students to experience the region in person by traveling to the region.
With?The OWU Connection, we emphasize intellectual curiosity, creativity, initiative, and synthesis. You have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with faculty to pursue your research interests and create new knowledge.
All Middle Eastern Studies majors complete a research project, through a class or independent study with a faculty mentor. You also may apply for a university-funded Theory-to-Practice grants to support your individual research, internships, service, and cultural immersion throughout the world.?
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other educational institution attended
- Complete a secondary school report given by the university
- Official transcripts must be evaluated by an accredition agency like WES, SpanTran or ECE
- Submit one recommendation letter from a teacher, coach or supervisor
- Submit one essay
- Students are encouraged to appear in an interview
- Submit a statement of activities highlighting what you are doing since completion of high school
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 79 in iBT; 8.0+ in Essentials
- IELTS: minimum score of 6.5
- PTE: minimum score of 53
- MELAB: minimum 91
- Duolingo: minimum score of 110
