Northern Illinois University Admission Deadlines

Northern Illinois University welcomes fresh applications for undergraduate and graduate programs during the Fall and Spring semesters every year. The application deadlines for international students are as follows:

The admission process for domestic and international students is both conducted online. However, international students have additional requirements and must be careful with their visa process so as to complete it in time. Northern Illinois University requires the following from its international applicants:
Non-refundable admission fee:

US Visa for International Students

If offered admission by Northern Illinois University, international students will be required to obtain a student visa to study in the US.

International applicants shall be issued Form I-20 from the university.
Applicants must provide the following documents to receive the I-20 Form:

- Proof of financial support (Affidavit and Bank Statement)
The I-20 must be completed with accurate information.
Students have to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee and print the receipt for the interview.

Ques. Does removing the test score requirement mean that Northern Illinois University is lowering the admission criteria?

Ans. No. It is just that Northern Illinois University has shifted its focus from test scores to GPA and other factors. Before the test-blind policy was implemented, the minimum high school GPA requirement was 2.5 which has now increased to 3.0 in the new policy.

Ques. What if I do not meet the minimum GPA requirements?

Ans. Applicants whose GPA is below 3.0 will still be considered for admission through a holistic review process. The University will consider the applicant’s circumstances for evaluation.

Ques. Will Northern Illinois University consider test scores if I submit them?

Ans. Even if you decide ACT/ SAT scores to the university, it will not be reviewed for the admission process. The scores will be added to your file for reference in the future.

NIU in a Nutshell

Overview:

I had applied to two colleges, NIU was my back up as I knew a family friend who went here and loved it. I got into both schools, but I ended up not liking my first choice when I went to orientation. So, I decided to give NIU a try as I received a great scholarship. I did not even receive a scholarship from my first choice. I am very glad I did as I have been able to continue a successful academic career while making some really great friends.

Overview:

It's close to my home, only an hour drive, and I like the big campus feel. I also thought that it was a decently ranked university and it wouldn't be too challenging for me. I also enjoyed the campus when I visited.
