DePaul University Undergraduate Admissions

Admissions to DePaul University undergraduate programs are fairly competitive. The university offers over 120 UG programs, from which Communication, Journalism and Management are the popular ones.

Admission Portal: Common Application site or DePaul application portal, Application Fee: 60 USD

Admission Requirements:

• Certified copies of secondary school transcripts or mark sheets are required.
• Original copies should not be submitted as they would not be returned.
• Tests to study in USA: TOEFL score 80
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. This is equivalent to 77-79% with C letter grade.

Academic Score:

• Mathematics- 3 years (minimum coursework equivalent to Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)
• English- 4 years
• Science- 3 years (two of which must be lab science)
• Other languages apart from English (French, Spanish etc)- 2 years
• Social Science- 2 years

Admission Requirements for Transfer Students:

• GPA of 2.5 or higher earned in transferable courses.
• Progress towards completion of major preparation requirements by spring prior to transfer.
• The following courses must be completed to gain access to the transfer application program offered by DePaul University:
  • For College of Business studies, five subjects (Finance, managerial accounting, business law, macroeconomics, microeconomics) and Maths (Business statistics) are mandatory.
  • For College of communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Media and Cinema studying, Organizational Communication, Public Relations and Advertising are mandatory.
  • For College of Education, Introduction to education, Human Development, educational psychology, Maths and Physical Education courses are necessary.
  • For College of Science and Health, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental, Neuroscience, Data Science, Mathematics and Physics are required.

All the courses should be completed with grade C or higher. No matter what major a candidate chooses to study, he/she must find courses at their respective community colleges that have equivalents at DePaul University.

DePaul University Graduate Admissions

Admission Requirements:

• Previous academic qualifications
• Minimum GPA of 3-3.5 (80-86%)
• English language proficiency scores. Minimum eligibility scores vary depending on the program opted for. Check the program specifications before applying.
• Letters of Recommendation (optional, maximum of 3)
• Statement of Purpose
• Resume
• GRE/GMAT score (whichever is applicable)

Candidates must note that documents like LOR, and SOP carry significant weightage for graduate applications of Theatre, Music, MBA, MS and Finance courses.

English Proficiency Test Score Requirements

International applicants who wish to study abroad are required to submit proof of language proficiency. Score requirements for the ELP tests applying with DePaul are given below. However, the requirements vary from program to program.

Visa Process for International Students

International students who wish to study in the USA at DePaul University require a student visa. The process of applying for the visa constitutes of the following steps:

• Get accepted by DePaul University
• Pay SEVIS fee and receive I-20 form
• Complete F-1 visa application application form
• Schedule interview
• Get approval

You can apply up to 120 days before the intended date of the start of the program.

DePaul University Admission Decision

The selected applicants will receive an admission decision on the below dates:

• Early Action Applicants: December 15
• Regular Notifications: March 15
• Music and Theatre Applants: April 1

International students who wish to apply to DePaul University must ensure that it is important to fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria. Application status is usually updated in a minimum of 2-3 weeks, however, it may take longer than this period.

If a student does not fulfill certain eligibility criteria but has excelled in other aspects of the applications and requirements, the university may send conditional offers to the students. In this case, the applicants are required to either take a preparatory course prior to their program, submit scores of exams they might be asked to reappear for or attain a specific consistent GPA while pursuing the program.
