The multicategorical special education program prepares candidates to pursue positions as K-12 special education teachers, special education coordinators, and/or private practitioners. Completion of the degree leads to Illinois LBS-I teaching licensure.

Field experiences accompany each course, leading eventually to practicum or student teaching. The weekly class format allows working adults to work on their degree programs while attending to their other responsibilities at home and/or in the workplace. The program is flexible and responds readily to any revised state or federal regulations.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicant must have completed a bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • Submit official transcripts of all universities attended
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited agency such as ECE or WES
  • Submit a letter of recommendation attesting to the student’s ability to succeed in college and proficiency in college
  • Submit a personal statement in 300-400 words about why you have applied to the university and personal accomplishment that qualifies you for admission
  • Submit two academic or professional letters of recommendation
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 80 in IBT; 213 in CBT; 550 in PBT
  • IELTS: minimum 6.5
