MIT Admission: Interview Process

The admission interviews for undergraduate programs are conducted between October to November for Early Action applicants and December to January for Regular Acttion applicants. The applicants may either be asked to give a vital interview or in-person depending on agreement with the Education counselor. However, an admission interview is not mandatory due to limited availability.

On average, the interview typically takes around 1 hour to complete. However, the duration may vary depending on the program and may last between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Before the interview, the candidates are advised to prepare in advance and must be aware of what questions can be asked by the Education counselor. Also, it is not mandatory to wear formals during the interview.

MIT Admission Decision and Dates

The decisions for first students applying through Early Action are typically made in mid December while the decisions for Regular Action are released in mid March. The admission decisions are directly uploaded on the application portal instead of email. The admission office may also send a package directly to the applicant's home address.

MIT Admission: Selection Criteria

Massachusetts Institute of Technology acceptance rate is quite low with only 3.96% for undergraduate admissions and 10.6% for graduate admissions. The reason for such a low admission rate is due to the holistic evaluation process for application. The applications are forwarded to the selection committee where a group of at least 12 people discuss whether the candidate is eligible for admission or not.

While the undergraduate selection criteria is based on previous academic performance, the graduate admissions offered on the basis strong academic standings along with work experience, certificates and written samples like SOP, LORs.
