From helping an elementary school student discover an instrument for the first time to developing the advanced vocal techniques of a high school choir, music education has vast opportunities to combine a love of music and teaching others. Our aim is to develop transformative teachers, and our small class instruction and expert faculty help cultivate an environment for you to succeed.
You’ll also have the ability to perform in any of numerous choirs and bands, take one-on-one lessons, and teach in a classroom. This degree prepares students for professional teacher certification (K-12) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
This program provides students the opportunity to prepare for a career in teaching Music in grades Kindergarten through twelve. Students in the program learn the content and pedagogical knowledge required to become transformative classroom teachers and to support their future students’ academic achievement. Content courses help students learn vocal or instrumental music skills, as well as music appreciation, theory, history, arrangement, and technology.
Education courses help students learn the instructional techniques, assessment methods, and technological knowledge to succeed in today’s dynamic classrooms. Students pursuing certification in K-12 Education must complete the Department of Education certification requirements including engaging in field experiences in school settings, successfully completing the Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA), and maintaining professional dispositions.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and all previous education completed
- Official transcripts should show last three years of result and the subjects taken during last year of secondary school
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Students have to submit one letters of recommendation and two if SAT/ACT exam score is not submitted
- Submit a statement of purpose in 250 to 650 words describing a challenge faced, class that engaged your imagination and ways in which college coursework is different from school
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

- TOEFL: minimum score of 79
- IELTS: minimum 6.0
- Duolingo: minimum 95
- PTE: minimum 58
