Students study music, history, theory and world music, while honing their skills in vocal or instrumental studies. Performance groups include choral, jazz, wind, and chamber ensembles, and private lessons are offered for instrument and voice by faculty members who are active musicians and teachers throughout the tri-state region and have performed nationally with professional ensembles.
Students have access to six large, air-conditioned practice rooms, all of which contain new Kawai grand or upright pianos and music stands. Additionally, students are allowed to practice on the concert grand pianos in the classrooms.
The major and minor are associated with the?Department of Music, which also houses five performing ensembles. The major requires 12 courses, four semesters of the same W&J ensemble, four semesters of applied study in a single area (voice or instrumental), and successful presentation of the senior music project.
